Having read the previous posts, I would not leave Aspen unless it was for a MAJOR DESTINATION. Many fine places have been mentioned here, but Aspen is as good as it gets for mountain experiences.

In addition to previously-mentioned destinations, ask around about the area from Aspen to Vail. Lots of history there, if the defence of this great country is of interest to you. The men who trained there came back from WW2 to create skiing in North America.

Will join in here to ask "have you see Colorado yet" Let me say that you could spend the next three years just looking through the possibilities of Colorado,
Leadville Independence Pass
Bueana Vista and the collegiate Peaks
Great Sand Dunes NP
Black Canyon of the Gunnison
Dinosaur NM
San Juan's
4X4 trails like you will never find anywhere
Silverton, Ouray,
Ski Resorts
On and on

Enjoy Colorado - IMHO it's hard to beat.

Thx to you all, will definitely look into all of these. We have been to Aspen several times, but always enjoy it, hence another visit! Am just sorry that we won't be in time to take in any of the music festival. DH says we keep going back to the same places so I was just looking for a hidden gem or two that I didn't know about! Thx again!

If you have not been to all of these close by spots while in Aspen they might just be fun.

Marble -- is often missed and the little "Artsy" town of Red Rock and last but not least Crystal Mill -- http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/24880372.cfm

BOL,

IMHO, I think you are referring to REDSTONE rather than Red Rock....there's a NICE NF cg right outside Redstone that has water/electric at each of the sites in the one loop and a shower for FREE....

Sorry my bad - http://www.redstonecolorado.com/stay.html

Couldn't remember the right name (Red Rocks - Red Cliff - Red Stone) but did remember it was on Rt 133, Great area to just bump around, love them all.

Thanks for the correction,

Last summer we stayed at Rivers Fork Lodge in North Fork Idaho. It has only 8 sites with full hookups. All sites have a river view .Amazing place and the owners were the most friendliest of people, they will go out of their way to make your stay pleasent. Go on rv parks review and all you will see they have given this place 5 stars.I also give this place 5 stars. I guess that says it all.Beautiful scenery all around. Next to the campground you have a small store and place to eat. They also have a lundromat to do your wash. Please check it out and you will not be disapointed.
