Another site that has conflicting info. The text reads that the "6E" should be used, while at the end of the article there is a link to the "6" (no "E"). Several knowlegable RV Techs on this site say "6E" while the Supco rep says "6". I wish we could get a definitive answer once and for all.....I've leaned towards the knowlege from the hands on guys on this site, but it would be nice to put an end to the conflicting answers.

MudChucker wrote: I attempted to install a Supco today...
I'm not sure how long it needs to be charged up but after installing I had my wife plug in the trailer to the 15amp circuit and had her power on the unit...it started up...I had her shut the ac off and about 30 seconds later start up again, the breaker popped on the pedestal.
I figured it was a charge time thing....
But
When I grabbed onto the Supco to try and figure out how I was going to mount it I noticed that the plastic end was quite warm...my sense was that it was too hot so I unhooked it.
Do the Supco units get hot ? Is this a product of charging or discharging ?
The Supco unit is designed to heat up. That is HOW the capacitor is taken out of the electrical circuit.
Now that you have taken it apart, I suggest replacing it, not trying to put it back together.
The resistor heats up, and as it does, the amperage goes down. Yes 200F is normal, actually warning signs on some of them say they normally reach 150C, or about 300F?
It takes about 2 - 3 minutes for the Suppco to cool off before it is ready to give a full boost again. Waiting only 30 seconds is not enough time to allow the suppco to cool off, and also not enough time to allow the freon pressure to equalize in the system.
With the new Suppco, test it again, and this time wait 3 or 4 minutes, it should work normally. If you have a temperature sensor, with remote sensor, such as a indoor/outdoor thermometer, you can attach the outdoor sensor to the top of the Suppco with some electrical tape, and see it go up to about 150 - 220F in about 2 seconds after starting the compressor. Your sensor might just read HI once it is above 130F.
Once the Suppo is below 130F, it is ready to cycle on again.

It did seem quite hot but perhaps that was my fault...
I'd hate to have a melt down on the roof tho.
If you remove the factory silver capacitor, then neither the compressor or indoor fan will work. THey will draw way to many amps.
The capacitor must be left in the circuit, or you will end up replacing the compressor and perhaps also burn up the indoor fan as well.

MudChucker wrote: Fan delay relay ?
Sorry, I am sure I read about it on here or Modmyrv. But, I sure can't find it now. Basically you put an electronic time-delay relay in the fan control wire of the thermostat so the fan doesn't start blowing until 5 seconds or so after the compressor turns on. That way you don't have two motors starting up at the same time.
Maybe someone else can help us find a link to the write-up......

I saw that on the FR forum:
AC generator improvement
AC fan delay
Read the entire thread as the OP changed his original configeration!

Thanks for the help. I put my relay in the thermostat wire, so it does not carry the motor load of the fan through the relay. Works great.

None of you should being screwing around with these capacitors if you dont know what your doing. Sure its a simple repair if you know what your doing. Capacitors can and do hold charges. I have not seen one post that I can remember on here or in this fourm about discharging a capacitor before touching it. One of these days one of you folks are going to get the shock of your life.
Dont add these suppco hard starts with other start componets installed they can and will blow up capacitors.
Please discharge your capacitors acrooss the terminals with a screw driver before working in those areas.

thank-you for your concern.
sadly you are mistaken, if you read further up you can see that: bob213 suggesting shorting the terminals to discharge the cap, and you will notice that I also commented indicating that I did discharge the capacitor.
I have a feeling that most of us that would do this mod, know enough about electronic components to know what a capacitor does.
like I mentioned, I simply power on the device with the supply voltage disconnected to discharge everything.
Cheers.

Installed the Supco
I removed the factory installed starter cap and installed the Supco onto the run cap.
I am plugged into a 15 amp circuit here are home and with the fan on low I test ran the ac for 15 minutes and had no issues.
Now I wonder if my 2000 watt geny will work
