I own a Harley. It will idle when I start it or at a red light. What I cant understand is why a lot have to continously rev the throttle when they are stopped. I dont do it but both my sons do it. Mine is pretty loud if I am getting out of your way but other than that it is not. Ride Safe Larry

I start my DP the evening before to build up my air pressure. That way I have lots of air pressure in the morning and don't have to wait for it to build up. After the camp is broken down and everything picked up. I can start up, release the brakes, and roll out without any messing around. And I am just idling out of the site, so nothing in the engine or tranny gets hurt. And this is with a old style 1994 diesel. You don't need to warm it up to pull out as long as you arn't horsing it.

This will not work for most DPs with levelers. The levelers must be raised before the bags will inflate. I start mine, start the levelers raising and up the rpms to around 1200 with the speed control to inflate the bags quicker, put away the electrical cord and by that time the bags are up and we leave. But that does take about five minutes from engine start to driving away BUT I NEVER start the engine before the expiration of quiet hours.

"If you tried to operate a car with straight pipes in most communities the law would be called and you would be cited."

Quite obviously, you have not encountered a Honda Civic with a "fart-can" resonator on the end of the tailpipe. Of course, it isn't ALL hondas, there are others, but it seems to be more prevalent on Hondas. They are loud, they are obnoxious, and the drivers seem to love to rev the engines to redline and beyond so the "fart-can" will REALLY TALK!
They are a great deal more annoying than ANY motorcycle, IMO.
Then there are the Ford and Chevy (and a few Dodge) diesel truck owners that think they are driving an 8V71 Detroit Diesel, so they put 6 inch stacks on it, and "tune" the engine so it over fuels and leaves two thick clouds of black smoke every time they accelerate. Then, they accelerate as often as possible, to give the world the benefit of their smoke. If ANYTHING should be outlawed, it is THEM!

We stayed at a rated campground, in Mississippi, that had several bikers staying there as well as p/ups with loud exhaust. There was no quiet hours. At 1:00 in the morning they came in goosing throttles and out the next morning to whatever they were doing.
Not much sleep and won't go back.
Stayed at Pigeon Forge, in motel. 1:00 am bikes drag racing or whatever.
They may like loud pipes doesn't mean we have to tolerate their abuse of the peace.
Either clean up their act or legislate some mufflers.
Tired, of being the one doing all the accomadating so as not to offend.
They want their loud pipes then use them at the right times and places.

if he rev's it before letting it idle he is doing more damage to his engine. Most bikes are supposed to idle for 2-3 mins if they have been sitting for more than a few hours to properly lubricate(though most don't do it). Rev'ing the engine serves no point unless he has a dirty carb or injectors and he has to do that to get them working, still not excusable for those reasons.

I gotta Harley and its kinda loud if I dont control the throttle in town. And I dont wear a helmet what ever that has to do with the topic. If it was me that was bothering you all you have to do is come over and say "could you quiet it down some?" I would. If you didn't ask me then I guess it is your problem. Half the worlds problems are from lack of communication.

Why is it incumbent on said person to come and ask you to quiet it down a bit? Can the person with the noise polluter not stop and think for just a moment that "hey, maybe this loud contraption is bothering a few folks nearby. I suppose I should tone it down somewhat until I am out of earshot". Sorta like others that always respond "If you don't like it, pick up and leave". That kind of statement gets under my skin at times. Those folks think the offender should always be given priority when I think the offender should use their noggin for something besides a hat rack and have a little respect and common courtesy which really seems to be lacking in today's society. A little respect for others is all I ask...........from both sides.

Over 40 years of riding here.
Loud pipes are "look at me bikes". Loud pipes endanger rights.
Same goes for yahoo's with loud trucks !

Helmets, well 43% percent of bikers died not wearing helmets. So the majority of deaths (the other 67%) were riders with helmets. Makes sense to me.

I have the same complaint about DP owners in the morning. they get up at 6 am and start their diesels , break down camp and let the diesel idle the whole time. I'm retired darn it and if I want to sleep until 8 or so let it be. break down camp then start your noisy diesel.

Trust me...you WANT me to warm up my bus at least a few minutes before I pull out. If I don't, it behaves like every other mechanical DT466 I have ever seen: putting any load on it cold means it emits a cloud of black smoke.

My wife's old Suzuki would surge for a minute or two when started cold...it DID rev a few times, but she had nothing to do with it. It did it on its own until it warmed up a bit.
