We're camping 5 miles from Charleston, SC in the trees, so using the antenna and we get frequent loss of tv reception. It keeps fading out and saying weak or no signal.

An antenna booster will help.

We recently spent several nights at Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs, Florida. I could pick up one station fairly well sometimes, and one with the freezing picture. Both were from Gainesville, Fl. We have the standard batwing crank up antenna with the snap on addition that helps with the new frequencies. The coach also has a built in antenna booster.

I purchased a RadioShack® High-Gain HDTV-FM Signal Amplifier
Model:15-321, and wired it into the system after the built in booster in the coach. After that, we got two stations from Gainesville, Florida (48 miles) and two from Valdosta, Ga (again about 48 to 50 miles). All four stations were very clear. Since the two cities are in opposite directions, it did require rotating the antenna.

I assume you have a Winegard Batwing or a Jack antenna. If so have you made sure the booster is on? Have you tried different directions and re-scanned for channels?

Digital is nice when you can a clean signal but sometimes I wish for the old snow days.

As much as folks like to complain about the new "Digital" Tv it really is way better than the old analog, I mean you either get studio quality, or you dont', with the analog you got studio quality.. if you could see the studio.

I upgraded my batwing with a wingman.. Made an improvement (About 3DB) added the Sensar PRO, that made a BIG differnece.

The sensar pro, around 70 bucks at Camping world, is a multi-function box

It is the cable/antenna switch (Same as the wall plate0
the power supply for the mast head amplifier (Like the wall plate)

A 2 way splitter (like the wall plate)

So it duplicates all the functions of the wall plate save for the 12 volt convince outlet.

It is a scanner, searching out the strongest carrier (Signal) and a signal strength meter displaying it's strength so you can aim the antenna

It is an adjustable gain amplifier

I went from noghing where I'm parked now to one or two stations iffy with just the batwing to several stations usually solid with the Sensar Pro.

What is needed to get tv stations now. We just have the crank up antena and booster that came with the rig. Is there a box you need now? We never watch the tv camping. Sometimes throw in a DVD.

Agree 100% with rvten. For the most part digital tv through the air sucks.

Being that close to major cities you should be getting many channels. Either your booster is bad, or your antenna connections are bad, or both.

I swapped my Wineguard for the Jack antenna. One of the things I like about it is the small red LED on the bottom of the antenna. When the booster is on (comes with the antenna...$50) the LED is easily visible when you look up at it from outside.

The Jack also mounts directly on the Wineguard mast, so very very easy to install.

I thought you needed some kind of box starting a few years ago when they changed the signal? I have the original tvs that came with the rv they are not digital ready. I'm gonna have to go to the back yard and raise the antena and see what I get.

Yes, if they are analog TVs you will need a converter. I have one that I don't think made the trip to the dump yet that I'd be happy to send you for postage.

Jack makes things simple since there's no extra wires, no wall switch. Hook the new antenna to the antenna wire on the roof, and down in the coach, the antenna wire plugs into a little booster pack the size of a deck of cards. Then cable comes out of that to your switch box, and the little booster pack has a power plug like a cordless phone.
