So today our not so wonderful cat managed to bring a mouse into the house. Hope the traps work! Read the entire tale here!
What bait do you use on mouse traps anyway?

A hungry cat is a much better hunter. Something tells me you spoil that cat.
I have a dog that will nail anything that tries to run. I could rent her out to you to train your cat. Hopefully the cat won't run as that could be a problem.

C'mon... don't you know a present when you see one?
And trust me... the cat caught it once and it will be caught again. Probably several times. Nothing to worry about... so long as the shots are up to date.

Minor injuries can occur, but basically correct with a couple of exceptions.
1. Mice can be a source of fleas in your house pets and
2. more commonly a source of tape worms. If your cats are mousers, make sure you do regular stool checks and watch for the rice sized tape worm segments in the stools or on the rear end of your cat.

In less than three days our cat brought in: 2 birds alive, baby squirel (twice), and a skink. That cat must really like us.
The main problem with a mouse is that it may end up someplace and die. A decomposing mouse is not a pleasant smell.
Peanut butter.

This cat isn't spoiled that way. Our previous cat was a mouser and a huntress. We watched her train her babies on how to catch. This cat never learned anything. Did you see the pics of her touching noses with the creatures?? That is what she does. She is more like, "Will you come out and play?" That is why after 12 years of that, we were so surprised with her having a mouse in her jaws.
DH went and bought mouse traps that "Don't need bait". I disagreed and on three of the five I put almond butter (DH is allergic to peanut butter). The mouse got caught in one of the two that was not baited by me. So I guess that worked!
Years ago we had a mouse in the car that destroyed two backpacks and some wiring before we got it gone. I'm so relieved that the mouse is no longer in the house!

We used to use the sticky traps without any enticement to catch field mice in our sticks'nbricks.
We only have indoor cats and they never bring in any critters. But we had a dog once that used to try to bring in baby rabbits into the house.
