We've been RVing for almost a year now, and so far I would say we are batting about .300 on the dozen or so campgrounds we have stayed.
I painstakingly read campground reviews on here and other places on the internet and it is apparent that a superior campground rating doesn't really mean much because as a group we are such a wide cross-section of America and what is a "10" to one person is a "1" to another.
I'm getting really frustrated and have even second guessed myself on choosing to pursue this so-called lifestyle as a means of travel.
Just needed to vent a little. Carry on.

The statement above is 100% right on. I camp with people that want trees competly shading the entire site and they call those sites a 10. I have a satilette dish and large trailer so that same site is a 1 or less for me. I like sun and open spaces. A few trees are nice but I don't want to be in the forest. If I'm going to a new place, I try to find a aerial photo of the place from Google earth or other web site so I get a idea of the layout. Randu

I'm just the opposite of Randu. I want to be in the forest. The more rustic the better.
His 10 would be my 1 and vise versa. Who's right? BOTH of us!
To each his own.
Alaska is next! Still trying to fit the pontoons to the RV so We can get to Hawaii!

Four years rving and camping in over 30 campgrounds and have been very happy. One major thing I notice when I read the reviews is the time of year/month the reviewer visited the campground. We have stayed at campgrounds in the off season- April, May, September, October- in our area- and have loved the campground but have said to each other that we would never want to be here on Holiday Weekends or during peak summer weeks when we know the campground would be crowded and look more like an RV parking lot.
During pek season it takes a little more effort to get a nice peaceful site but yet again no let downs.
We will also check out a campground when we are traveling around in our car on regular trips. This way we cam eliminate them from our list of possible future places to stay.
See you on the road!

I get it right almost 100% of the time. The campground 'ratings' mean little to me but the personal comments give me a pretty good picture of a campground.
Since most of my camping is done in public campgrounds, I have a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for there. When I stay at a private campground, it's not for the scenery but to catch up on issues like laundry and Wifi, so I'm looking for different features altogether. It's great to have both kinds of parks and I find RV Park Reviews very helpful.

What "type" of camping do you like to do?
Possibly you are looking for a "wilderness experience" in a "Resort" type private park or looking for a "Resort type" of experience in a state park?
There are different "types" of camping. Keep this in mind when doing research.

2006 Outback 27 RSDS
We also have with us two "fur babies". A Basset Hound and a Chihuahua mix. Both are rescue dogs.

I ALWAYS get it right because I NEVER depend on the campground to entertain me or even amuse me. Campgrounds are places to spend the night when traveling and every one I've chosen has done that. Some may be better than others in that they have better scenery or their other guests are pleasant to camp next to or even fun to talk with but the campgrounds ALWAYS provide me a place to rest overnight or longer, while I tour the area and find my recreation away from the campground.

x2. We use the comments more than the numerical rating. We also look to see how many comments/ratings someone has posted on the site, since some people will never be happy and/or always find something wrong.

Well, we have our 'usual' campgrounds that we know inside and out. Then, about twice a year- we go somewhere new as we want to visit a relative or local attractions. On those occasions, I try to get a KOA. I know what to expect, so no big surprises. When we were looking for campgrounds for quick 3-day trips, I made dry runs in the car to check them out. That really helped us choose a nice spot.
