It also makes access to tires easier if there is a flat. It might even make for a nice off-road rig if the wheels were driven, like the Dodge 6x6 T-rex of the 1990s.
However, I wonder about both wheel scrubbing and repairs. I always wonder about service facilities and maintenance expenses. This is something learned from friends and cow-orkers who buy imported cars, then find that the cost to keep them running is 2-10 times as much as it does to keep the Honda or Ford going.
Maybe the tag has a lift feature like ours do.

I think an issue Chrysler has to address if they eventually get imported into he US.

I think it is an Al-Ko chassis with air suspension.

As I understood the plan, one or both of these are to be imported to become the new Dodge/Chrysler commercial vans. So that is where they would be serviced. Just as with the Sprinters when they were Dodge.
Of course, the Fiat/Dodge marriage may not last any longer than the Mercedes/Dodge marriage...

Doesn't tag axle refer to an axle that is behind an axle that is driven by the engine? In the Dycato, both rear axles are tags.
The situation is pretty much the same as for any travel trailer RV with tandem axles - and there are plenty of these.
I noted in the al-ko pdf that the Ducato chassis cab is delivered in pairs welded back to back just like the VW Rialta.

Tandem Axle a better term than tag axle

This is a European Class A or "Integrated " as they call it. built on the IVECO Daily chassis.
It is 27ft long, can tow 7,700lb, has a GVWR of 11,400lb

I would be worried about this one. Top heavy? narrow track (wheels are inset from the body) and the rear overhang is huge (short wheelbase)for a 27 footer. I would imagine this set up would be very unstable and have a terrible ride.

Presumably the ride is excellent. Won "Motorhome of the Year". A New Zealand review
