That is the only way I knew of wireing it to provide inverter power to the whole rig, without dedicated lines. I think what I will do is install a 30amp breaker toggle switch on the shorteline cord, inside the rig, before the main breaker pannel.
That way I do not have to go outside and disconnect the plug, simply flip the "OFF" switch when inverting.

If you plug into an OPERATING generator with the inverter powering the RV, the Inverter will most likely smoke, The generator may also be seriously damaged (Read that total loss)

If you plug into shore power.. The inverter will likely smoke.

Recommendation: If you are going to use this poor man's transfer switch method (Move the plug to the outlet) instead of a proper power pass through inverter or auto-transfer switch for the inverter and it's sub panel......

Use another outleet, One lableed "GENERATOR" one labeled "INVERTER" and of course the park provides the 3rd option "Shore Power".

Here is a manual switch if you must.

BTW there are many many systems in the RV that are automatic.

30a automatic is easy install and very reliable.

Feed the power cord and the inverter to the separate inputs. Connect the output to the main panel. Piece of pie, easy as cake.

Hi,

I dislike transfer switches, too.

I'd suggest you use the inverter the same way as you do the generator. Have a single outlet powered by the inverter and a different outlet powered by the genny. Choose which ever one you wish to use.

Having the inverter hard wired (if I understand what you have done) is a bad idea. Don't rely on "high tech" to protect you or the genny.

I have no reason to dislike mine in my Prosine 2.0. It hasn't failed in 8 years and thousands of operations. And if it did I wouldn't decide to not trust it and change to something manual. I'd fix it.

If you didn't 'mistrust' anything automatic you could have a much safer and reliable installation.

Hope the pics. explain some of the confusion, first the two pigtails wired to the main 30 amp panel ( "IN" and "OUT" )

Then we have the main power bar where all the 8 batteries come in...
http://s209.photobucket.com/albums/bb270........frecku/?action=view¤t=DSCN1070.jpg

I have a lot of sensor so I can get exact amp capacity, daily usage and battery state....
http://s209.photobucket.com/albums/bb270........frecku/?action=view¤t=DSCN1071.jpg

All controlled by the computer shown on the first picture...

And here is the inverter itsels...

Last but not least, I like the term suicide shoreline cord, using a 30/15 amp adapter where the 15 amp prongs were removed, will not have to use one if I install a breaker switch between the shoreline cord and main 30 amp panel.
