I just have to vent on my 1200 LRIM refrig. I get in from a 10 day trip on July 5 and sure enough I have a recall, you know the drill unplug, don't use, file out the card send it in. Take recall notice to local RV dealer to get over temp. switch put in. I go to my local RV shop they fax in the request because Norcold won't send the parts or stock pile at dealers. No problem not going anywhere until 7/31. So I go by on Saturday no part, now it has been almost 11 days. I get a call from Norcold wanting to ask some questions this morning. Can't take the call so I call them back, sure enough they have no record of the request for the recall part. I jump in the truck and go into dealership ready some action. They refax the request and I call the Norcold folks to make sure they got it. Guess what it isn't the right fax number. Now keep in mind that the form is directly from Norcold's recall website to request recall parts, but the CSR tells me well that is another location and we don't have it hear. NORCOLD haven't you heard of networks?? If something is sent to one location you can pick it up at another especially when you are calling me to see if my problem has been resolved. I finally get a supervisor and she tells me to have dealer call. I tell her they refuse because you guys put them on hold and they don't get enough for fixing your mess up. Now it is going to be another week before the part arrives. No telling when I will get it installed. Is it any wonder that they have an awful rep with RVer's? Thanks for letting my vent.
It is difficult to believe how a huge company like this can survive considering the way they design and manufacture appliances like we have in our coaches, namely the electric/propane refers. One would think they would bend over backwards to make things right with consumers, but instead they bend the consumer over and .... well you know. My Norcold has been trouble free since the latest recall but I know the day of reckoning is approaching. I do have a Halon extinguisher in place and a smoke detector above the stack so hopefully I'm partially covered. Best of luck getting your issue resolved.

That is incredible to say the least. Also I don't recall them having these problems with refrigerators 20 years ago. Did they forget how to make them???

It's going to take the original mfr's decision to find alternatives to provide the retail customers with a dependable refer, until then it's more of the same old same old. However, I hear that some of the higher end Rv units are being built with the home style electric refer's that has got to start hurting the gas/electric units of Norcold and Dometic, who have long had the rv industry to themselves. Not going to argue about Norcold recall problems, but I would question what's wrong with your dealer. I received my letter for the recall, called my dealer and provided them with refrigerator information. Couple days later, they called and said parts in. We set up an appointment for the following Monday, took about 45 minutes to install. Whole process was seven days. I guess it just would bother me if my dealer said we won't make a phone call because it's not enough money in it to remain on hold. Seems like a lame excuse to not wanting to do the work or kept you as a satisfied customer. I do hope you get it fixed before your next trip.
1. Norcold does NOT process the recall. They have a seperate company that has a seperate number and fax number and people. The so called dealer should have known that. If you call the regular Norcold number, you get Norcold people that have no way to find out the status or can even process the Recall. They do give you the correct phone number to call for the recall.
2. We have NOT had problem as a dealer getting our requests and recall kits within 5 business days. NEVER have had more than 5 days pass before we get the kit.
3. GOOD dealers, (we are one) have kits is stock for emergency's. We process the order and get a kit on the way and use one of our stock kits to get the customer on the way and then restock the ordered kit when it comes in
4. The recall has been out for almost 2 years, don't know why you have not recieved notification until now, but Norcold has been VERY diligant about using all sources to get the recall letters out to everyone they believe has a 1200 series.
5. This is a safety recall and has NOTHING to do with performance of the refer. If you have performance issues, and you have the recall installed, you will still have performance issues.

It is funny that some just have all kinds of problems. I was sent the letter of the recall from Norcold about two years ago. I went to the nearest RV dealer and showed them the letter. They told me to give them a couple of days to get the parts, and that is all it took. "They installed the heat sensor and now two years later it is still working perfect.
So I do believe the place you took the coach to has a lot to do with the delay.

I had the same positive experience. The parts came promptly, they did the repair quickly and I was on my way. Sorry about your troubles.

You'll feel better when you ditch that 1200 Norcold and install a residential fridge, I know I do. It was like getting a bad tooth pulled when I got that thing outa my motorhome. Good luck.
