I want to use my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 short bed as my toad, curb weight is 4710, class 3 on MH is 5000. Seams a little close for max weight, suggestions?

If that is your actual weight, you are fine. No need to add your own safety margin into a device that already is designed with a safety margin.

We routinely pull up to (but not over) the max weight of our hitch on two different motorhomes. A C and an A. So far so good. Not giving advice. Just my personal experience.

2003 Revolution 40C Class A. 2002 Vanguard 22 foot Class C. Diesel smart car Toad or pulling a 2009 Timeout Tent Trailer.

How does the RV handle when towing? Problems breaking or climbing hills? If not you should be fine, yes it is close so don't put a 2K LBS motor cycle in the bed of the truck, but other than that go for it!
