Reminds me of a hitch offender the wife and I saw one night outside a hotel/casino in Mesquite. The truck was a big lifted POS, which required a long and deep drop hitch. Like at least a foot of drop and about that much extension. This idiot had backed into his spot, with the rear of his truck and his hitch extending across more than half the sidewalk width. The sidewalk that was along the hotel room doors. He had created a dangerous situation for anyone using the sidewalk. No way was it anything but intentional.
I still wish I had snapped a photo of this, because I would post it as evidence every time this topic comes up, which is often. Rude is the nicest word I could use for this guy.
Like I said, not all hitches are equally offensive.

I guess if it makes you feel complete by leaving yours in and a old lady parks next to you at WalMart and gets out of her car and walks behind your big red Super Duty and cracks her chin and falls down and breaks her arm you will say she should have been looking where she was walking.
NICE!
She might should be parking in the handicap section. You sure do throw out some stuff. How about this. The police are chasing a murderer through the Walmart parking lot and they cant keep up with him. the murderer turns to run around behind my truck, and he runs into my hitch, whacks his shin, and falls down. The police catch up to him and arrest him. I become the hero in helping the police catch a fugitive. If it weren't for my laziness, he would of gotten away.
Sounds like a bunch of crap, eh?
Hey, I like to stir the debate and give people something different to think about. You have a good point also.
Have you noticed how the people that think you should remove the hitch are not posting? Probably don't want to be flamed!
I remove mine when not in use and I think everyone else should also but it is your choice to do what you want.
I do what I KNOW is right and you all keep on doing what you THINK is right! HA

This thread was all a fun read -- so glad to be retired, so I don't regret the time I waste this way!
I remove mine, out of what I like to think is consideration for others. My Tundra is long enough to fill most parking spaces, so if I leave my hitch on, it's likely to be sticking out into the lane, asking to be tripped over or run into. Either that, or I back into a space, and my front end is similarly sticking out.
The other thing I have discovered the hard way is that if you leave a hitch in long enough, it can be very difficult to remove when you want to. I needed to send my Blue OX towbar to the factory for reconditioning after too many years in the elements, and spent several hours breaking it loose from the receiver box. It fit VERY snugly in the box, and rusted nicely in place. Needless to say, I cleaned off the rust from both parts and lubed everything up before re-installing.

This has actually been a very good read on such a seemingly trivial and insignificant issue. It's been informative with good info, thought provoking/food for thought, and fun entertainment provided as a result of a few sore knees. Thanks to the OP. Great read!

If you've seen that law, could you please cite it for me? I'd like to read it with my own four eyes...
