This is our third day in Valdez and nary a drop of rain. Some folks may not realize how unusual this is. We took a boat tour to Columbia Glacier yesterday and saw quite a few animals - no Orcas but humpbacks are my personal favorite.
The pinks (humpies) are running and we have never seen so many fishing boats. They are using a purse fishing technique and it is fasinating to watch.
Today was eagle (and laundry) day. Have not uploaded my pictures yet but we sure saw a ton of mature and immature bald eagles plus osprey (we guess). They were over by the salmon hatchery and in the trees waiting for the fish.
I think we went a week and didn't ONCE see the tops of the mountains around Valdez. Sounds like you've found some really clear weather which is indeed quite rare

We spent three days in Valdez on our Alaska adventure in 2010 and we saw one day of heavy rain and two days of overcast.
You have truly hit a great time to be in Valdez. It is a beautiful place and yes the trip to the Glacier is nothing less than spectacular.
Have a continued good trip.
It's true, you have lucked out with the sunshine, but Valdez is our favorite spot in Alaska. If it's possible to have a favorite. I'm wondering if the city has decided to do anything with the Sea Otter RV park. So disapointing to see that beautiful spot sit there and not be able to use it.
