I like my motorhome and would not replace it. But if there is one thing that I would replace is the original manual awning. Has anybody ever replaced their awning with a new electric awning? What would it cost to replace it? I'm curious. Have you done it?
There are some good awnings out there, but there are some that are not worth a penny. If you get the awnings that go straight out they are worthless because they don't give any shade. You need the type that will come down some. Those that go straight out were designed for coaches that have slide outs and the awnings have to go over the slide, so they have to go straight out.
I have met lots of owners that have the straight out awning and they are very unhappy with the situation.

I would think twice about electric awnings. I've heard that they are not worth the expense. You just have one more item that can go wrong. A wise engineer once said "The more complicated the plumbing the easier it is to stop up the drain"

Exactly, I wouldn't have one.
I would not have one either, but to the OP if you really are keen on getting one as said in another post DO shop around. Some of them are flimsy, do not provide shade, do not tilt, and do not lower for ease of cleaning. I can't see how you would find that more convenient that a manual, so be sure you know what you are getting. I have a feeling the really good ones that are more similar to a manual but with a push button are pretty hefty in the price tag.

I guess our awning is a 'straight out' type electric awning. Ours is attached to the slide-out itself so we don't lose any patio coverage.
Our Girard awning has worked very well, no complaints. It has an automatic retract if the wind gusts to 25+ mph. We get plenty of shade with it.
In fact, if we have room on the awning side, I have used it as a carport for the Honda on sunny days.

I can see the logic here...why have power steering, power brakes, power windows, radio or even a heater...A/C forget it!..one more thing to go wrong.........we have a Girard and I would never go back to a manual awning...to the OP...IMHO, yes, they are worth it....Dennis

Just take a look at how they hang first before you decide to buy one. They are usually straight out without the option of lowering them.
I RV with friends that have electric awnings and I do have to say each and everyone of them have had them not work and it's mobile repair time.
And in one instance with a DL Journey, Mobile Repair said they couldn't repair it they would have to call the manufacture repair. I stayed behind with my friends waiting for repair, which was 2 days later AND he had to take the entire dash off to repair the awning.
Looked like a scene from 'Houston we have a problem' under that dash, it was unbelievable all the wires and computers. No wonder mobile repair didn't want to touch it.
Just saying.

so as to have the life that is waiting for us".
Before we traded in our last unit - a TT, we checked on installing an electric awning - it was going to cost $1500 - $1800. We opted to wait. Our new fifth wheel came with one and love it! Love it, love it. love it! Did I tell you I love it?
