Ok, so the gassers always talk about making sure they fill their vehicles with quality gasoline.

What about diesel? Is there a particular reason you buy from one station vs another other than price?

IMHO not really.

I'm sure you will get some on here that will say to only buy brand X or whatever. The bottom line is most fuel from my area come from the same truck and supply depo.

The most used stations around here are the ones with the lowest prices. There is no bio in the fuel (unless you want some) around here so that is no problem either.

Being a somewhat new diesel owner (2012 Ram 2500 with 6.7L Cummins) owner, I can only say that I buy my diesel fuel only from those stations that have a large amount of big rig customers. IMO this assures me that the fuel I get there is 1) good quality and 2)is "fresh".

I hope that I never have to buy diesel from a small Mom & Pop store not knowing what the quality of the fuel is or when they received their last load.

Truck stops due to the frequent turnover of fuel and diesel being their primary business.

No. Price dictates higher volume of business = higher likelihood of fresh fuel.

Fuel is one of the few products I can think of where price makes little to no difference in quality of the fresh product.

I try to buy from the higher volume dealers. I have received a poor tank of fuel near the Mexican border. The effect was poorer fuel milage (around 30%) until I had refilled several times to bring the fuel rating back up. I add Cetane to the fuel of my 7.3 since they reduced the sulfur.

Around here I think desiel sales are pretty close between stations. We have a chain of fuel and quick marts called Circle K. that sells a few cents less but I have found I get 10% less mileage with their fuel than from a name brand, Shell, Chevron, etc. Where we camp it takes one tank for a round trip with good fuel but I have to switch over about ten miles from home with the Circle K fuel. I lose one mile per gallon. It has checked out on several trips. I mention this to our Son who has a new GMC and he found the same results.. I spend the few cents more for the better fuel..

Good to know. I know the difference in the various levels of gasoline makes a big difference in some vehicles so I was just curious if there was a similar thing with diesel. I guess it is trial and error. I will start with the lowest price store that is within reasonable distance of home as I see them to a favorable although not large amount of business.

I look for a place that sells a lot of diesel. It usually means the price is lower, and the fuel fresher.

I swear my 6.0 PSD gets better mileage and runs better and quieter on Shell Diesel than the Arco Diesel I can get for about 5 cents a gallon cheaper!
