Looking for info on routes in So Fl.
My mapping software has me getting off I-95 around Ft Pierce and getting on the Fl Turnpike until I pick up US-1.
Just curious why I wouldn't stay on I-95?

I-95 will take you south through some of the most populated areas of the state and the Interstate is used by all that local traffic. Jump on the turnpike at Ft. Pierce and take the turnpike down. Yeah, it's gonna cost you. But, you'd probably spend almost as much in fuel for the stop and go traffic, not to mention the frustration. Have a safe trip.

I just did that trip in the early Spring. Definitely take the toll road. The traffic around Miami on 95 sucks, almost as much as Northern VA traffic.

We live in Marathon, and have a thought for you... strongly suggest you stop at a Publix Food, and purchase a Sun Pass transponder. It will save you money (costs $5) and allows you faster movement through all the toll areas. And do stay away from I95 around Miami. Your biggest challenge is the "highway" Route 1 thru the Keys. good luck

You can save a few $ and get off 95 at Jupiter, the turnpike is right next to 95 there. FYI, 95 ends in Miami, run into US 1, you would never want to do that.
Turnpike, also can use Sawgrass Expressway, keeps you away from lots of traffic depending on time of day.
Have fun in the Keys.

Beat me to it.
Take the turnpike at the Jupiter exit.
Don't even think about 95 south of there.

I agree with others. Get on the turnpike. Been through on the 95 once and only once. Get on the turnpike, set the cruise and watch the water in the ditches for gators!

We just got back from a trip and took the 301 to 27 to 997 to 1 all the way back home here in Key west - it was relaxing and pleasant although a bit slow, there's even a casino to stop and try your luck at - I highly recommend that route if you don't need to get down here fast.

DW just had to do the I-95 thru Miami to US 1 last December going to Key West. Three hours from the end of I-95 to Homestead and the end of the toll road. Right at 5 pm to boot. This fall, if she wants to go that way it'll be with a new husband!
I spent 33 years on the CHP including ten years in San Diego and two in Riverside. Plus, we go to DC about every six months. Miami is worse.
I like to go over to the west side and then across 41 to 997. Light traffic, a couple of campgrounds, visitor center, and a whole bunch of gators and birds.
