Has anybody stayed at the Furnace Creek campground in Death Valley? We're interested in possibly staying there around New Years. Does this campground have full hook ups?
I read on the National Parks website that the campground is closed right now for renovation and will resume taking reservations in August.
EDIT; I see from the NP website Furnace Creek does not have hookups. Can anyone recommend a CG with full hookups?

Furnace creek did not have full hook-ups there in Feb. However, they were working on upgrading one of the campgrounds and including electrical service. Stovepipe Wells which is about 25 miles down the road does have 30 amp. available in one campground there.

Taken from the park website: "The National Park Service campgrounds do not provide hookups for recreational vehicles. RV hookups are only available at the concession-run Stovepipe Wells RV Park and the privately owned Panamint Springs resort."

Stovepipe wells has a few hook up sites along the road. We used to stay there every thanksgiving weekend. We never had to get advanced reservations because most of the RVers just used the sites without hookups. We would just pull into the hook up sites and pay in the morning.

Call the resort in Furnace Creek. They have a small FHU CG in the back used mostly by the employees, probably a few seasonals, but there are several spots that can be rented out by the day. It's just OK... But you really lose the DV "feel". We stayed there only one night and moved to the dry CG just down the road.

At Stovepipe Wells has one campground run by a concessionaire that has 14 FHU sites. Is there any reason that you can't due with out hook ups, Dv is so large that relocating your rig is very practical option. Truck Camper forum has many post trip reports on DV.Pm me if you have any further questions on DV sights.

As you stated Furnace creek campground is closed for renovation. The renovation will include full hookups to most but not all sites. So They will probably start taking reservations when the get done (projected completion date will be in August.) The private concession camp at Stovepipe wells has about 14 full hook up sites and new management and I beleive they now take reservations. Give them a call to find out for sure.
Furnace creek reservations are made through receation.gov.

We were at Furnace Creek this past winter for a week and never saw an open site at the full hookup area. I'd definitely call ahead and see what the story is. Either they were occupied by the "homesteaders" or their reservation system runs a very tight ship.
John
Please note that my comment about Furnace Creek is in error. I was referring to the full hookup sites at Stovepipe Wells. Sorry

I was there in April. They are installing 'many' FH sites at Furnace. Check the web or call.
