It is a TV and Internet frenzy. I refuse to watch it further. enough is enough.
This kind of wanton glorification only encourages others. Please stop.

Hubby told me when I got up this morning. Haven't had the tube on since but did a little online reading. Cannot comprehend what makes a mind snap like that. Scarier thing is his mom called the police after the news broke, knowing in her heart that her son was involved. So sad.

All this just doesn't make any sense at all. All day I've had this feeling of helplessness/hopelessness-can't really explain it, maybe an empty feeling. It is so sad. And there is one thing I can do to try to make it better for the victims and survivors. I can pray for everyone of them. I watched the police chief's press briefing tonight and he broke up a few times especailly when he was talking about his officers and what they experienced last night and today. Such a sad sad situation.

I agree.
But, I still wonder why and feel sorry for the families of the victims.

The "why" he did it is for psychiatrists to determine.
Our society encourages this type of thing because of our love of violent behavior in movies, TV and the Internet which offers violent games etc.
Some here might not like the violent films and TV but there are more then enough in America to make Millions upon Million producing these movies.
Every time something like this event occurs and the event is covered Ad nauseam on TV it only gives encouragement to other weak minds and puts in motion other wonton acts of violence.
What price freedom when things like this continue and lives are cut short and families destroyed.

Yes, the NBC evening anchor even flew out to broadcast from there. It seems that the media "glorifies" (at least to me) the tears and sadness. Yes, I'm sad that this deranged person did this. My prayers go out to the survivors and affected family members.

The bad part is that the freak that did this. Will only get life in prison.
Too many like him crawling out from under rocks.
Innocent people getting killed and so many just getting a good start on life.

But it sounds like this young man was an outstanding student who had been working on his phd - the only run-in with the law had been a speeding ticket a few years ago. So not only does my heart break for every parent whose kids were killed/wounded/traumatized by this (I guess this is just a normal "parent" response?) - but I can't help but wonder why a seemingly nice guy turned so dark?
As someone else mentioned, I did read that the mother of the shooter immediately contacted the San Diego police; so I'm guessing she had picked up on emotional/mental changes in her son, but being 1000 miles away - there wasn't much she could do.....

Prayers for all those families that lost someone.
Points out that life is not certain and you have to look out for you and yours. Society can't protect you and the Police will show up in time to write the report.
We are fortunate, in America, in general, that our society was unique and such events were few in comparison to the population.
I don't want to see that changed.

We should not glorify those who cause these atrocities. They should be given a number, their names never again mentioned. Without publicity the scourge may be diminished. It is, after all, terrorism!
