OK,

I am looking at buying a new to me fifth wheel and am installing a superglide hitch.

The questions is ...can I pull it home with the superglide - Without - the capture plate? Then once home install the plate then.

No, I do not believe so. If it has the MorRyde pin box, be sure your have gotten the capture plate prior to arriving for the pick-up. Good luck. Phillip

I would not try to do that. I understand there is something you can get from Pullrite to keep the hitch from sliding, then you can pull it. I read this several years ago on this form. Why don't you call Pullrite. Very nice people to visit with. You can also get a bolt on capture plate from them and just bolt it on. I saw one the other day and was very impressed. I really wish that is what I had.

No, but the good news is that all you need are hand tools to put on the capture plate. 10 to 15 minutes is all you need, plus allen wrenches and a small wrench, 3/8" or so... Forget the size... At any rate, it's easy.

I would not pull it without a capture plate. The capture plate on my 5th wheel is screw in with 2 in. self taping screws. I think there is about 12-15 of them.

No it won't work the hitch will slide all over the place. If you get the right capture plate that's made for your pin box the are no holes to drill at all. They slip into place, you usually have 2 screws that go in sideways in the front maybe with some shims and one setscrew that tightens against the king pin..that's it. I don't think they even sell the old ones that required drilling a bunch of holes and bolting it on. Takes all of 5 minutes to install it.

As the others have said, no you shouldn't. Without the capture plate nothing will be preventing the hitch from slamming to rearward position. Basically since the pin isn't captured the hitch will be able to slide back and forth regardless if you are turning or not. Have the dealer install the capture plate or use a different truck to pull it home.

You must use the plate. Some attach with multiple screws, and some with one. It depends of the pinbox mfgr.

Its easy to install the capture plate.
2- small c-clamps or vice grips
1/4" drill bit
7/16 wrench
cordless drill

The capture plate comes with the allen head bolts and allen wrench.
What I did was clamp the plate in place and drill the holes from the bottom side.
Go slow with the drill speed, and a decent pressure and you'll have it done in 5 minutes or less.
