Yep, it's the miniscule amount of lead that 'might' be in the brass. Years ago, most of the submersible well pump mfgs converted to cast stainless pump heads because of this garbage raising the cost of the pumps considerably.

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and purchase a Watts Whole House regulator and the hose fittings. Much better water flow and it is also adjustable.

Be careful! All of our State Legislators have been taking in those chemicals for years and look what they've done to this state!
I risked the brass watts regulator and as long as when I die I'm RVing, I'll be fine with that.

Most "Harmful" chemicals (IE Cancer causers) that Prop.65 requires warnings on... Well.
Years and years ago there were some studies, funded by the sugar industry, on artificial sweeteners. Back then, nobody had heard of Stevia, Nutrasweet and ACD-K were not yet invented, so the two biggies were Cyclamates and Sodium Saccharine.
They fed lab mice the human equivlent of a shovel full (NOTE: That is a LOT) of the stuff and of course they came down with cancer We are talking several pounds a day (Equivlant).
The US banned Cyclamates, and Canada Saccharine.
I mean not even the fat lady at the circus could possibly consume enough to cause cancer (of either chemical).
But Prop 65 would require the warning.
There is a tiny amount of plastic inside the unit, that A rubber washer (Well shythetic rubber or plastic) and some brass and spring steel also one large flexible (Rubber or plastic) sheet.
Not enough to worry about Not even close to enough to worry about, The glue on the package is more dangerous.
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

Almost any metal or plastic plastic product gets caught on the Prop 65 standard.
Don't eat the regulator. Actually, that's not even fair, because some essential nutrient metals (zinc, for one) are carcinogens or mutagenic at some dose.

Actually nothing is wrong with the picture.
Prop 65 in plain language
Prop 65 was passed by direct voter initiative in 1986 by a 63 to 37% margin . . . .
which was well before Julia Roberts played Erin Brokovich in the movie of the same name about Hinkley, CA - and the PG&E cover-up of cancer causing chemicals in the ground water from their facility.
Like "wa8yxm" - PG&E said, "what's the problem?" - it's just a miniscule amount of chromium in the water..

As CA regs go - the Feds (and EPA) are usually right behind!.
See the *Federal* Safe Drinking Water Act ("SDWA") of 1974, amended in 1986 and 1996 - particularly the requirements for *plumbing* fittings & fixtures!.
Fed - SDWA
BTW - CA is the 8th largest economy in the world if states of the USA were compared to other countries of the world.
Bankrupting is a figment of your AZ imagination - and *if* it were to happen the "other 49" will be in the same boat - and you will indeed be . . lostinAZ.

A lot of plumbing fixtures have lead and they leach it into the water.
The information on Nutrasweet is factually incorrect. Nurtrasweet is comprised primarily of Aspartame. When it was tested by the FDA there was concrete results showing it produced brain tumors in mice (which mimic human physiology). The panel of FDA scientists voted to not approve aspartame for human consumption. Enter Donald Rumsfeld who was brought in to head Searle, the company that makes aspartame, and get it approved by the FDA. Rumsfeld was heavily involved with getting money into Ronald Reagan's campaign coffers and the first day of Reagan's presidency he appointed a new FDA commissioner who quickly moved to have the FDA review aspartame for sale to the US public. The board still did not approve aspartame after the commissioner, Arthur Hull Jr. appointed two more carefully selected new scientists so Hull then appointed himself to the board to serve as a tie-breaker. Hull later when to work for the chief lobbying firm for Searle.
Over the past 30 years there as been increasing consumption of aspartame (Nutrasweet) and with it a rapid increase in brain tumors and cancer. The jump in reported cases of brain cancer started within 6 months of the introduction of Nutrasweet/asparteme into the US food supply.
Be glad that California is part of the USA as it regularly pays more in taxes into the federal government than it gets back in services. The primary beneficiaries not surprisingly are the red states that say welfare is bad but whose businesses are happy to take federal subsidies nonetheless.
