Most switches for the electric element to heat your tank can be found outside of your RV inside the removable panel where your hot water tank is located (mine is a simple toggle switch). Remember, whenever that switch is "on", you are hooked up to electricity, and your water heater breaker is "on" you need to make sure water is in your tank. Good luck!

Ours is located on a panel in the galley area...it allows us to run w/h on electric or propane with just a flip of a switch! The water pump is also located on that same panel.

Some trailers have a switch on the back of the water tank that can be switched off or on as well as a switch in the coach. The switch on the tank should be shut off when ever you drain the tank to prevent the accidental burning out of the element.

Ours has two switches. One just inside the Rv in the kitchen, and one on the face of the hot water heater. I was not shown this till I called dealer out to Park and they finally realized toggle on water heater itself was still off.

The most important thing when you find the switch is what seattlefirervr posted. Don't flip that switch without water in the water heater. It takes less than a minute to burn up the heating element!

My switch is on the tank monitor indicators. Some are located in the WH compartment on the outside.

My Komfort has the external switch, with a "hairpin" safety on it so you can not accidentally bump it on. In a CG with power, you should be able to run =both= LP and AC for faster recovery times, which is nice if you have several people staying in the trailer with you.

The only time I turn off the water heater’s electric switch is when I drain the tank to check the anode rod or to sanitize the fresh water system. I never use propane if I have an electric hookup. My tank is 10 gallons and that is plenty for back-to-back showers for the two of us.
BTW, when I first got my 5er, I called the water heater’s manufacturer, Suburban, and asked about that cotter key that was on the outside switch. They said they install that to protect the unit during installation by the RV manufacturer. They found that the manufacturer would sometimes inadvertently turn on the switch before the water heater’s tank was full of water, which would later result in a burned out heating element when the RV was plugged into shore power. They said the cotter key should be discarded by the consumer once the tank is full.
