Almost bought a 2013 Ford Edge yesterday. Love the car! But I heard that the eco boost engine can not be towed all 4 down. Does anyone here tow a 2012 or 2013 Edge with the eco boost engine? I understand I can tow the V6 but not the eco boost. The tow guides state you can tow the eco boost.

Check the vehicle owners manual, period. Do not rely on a salesman's statement or what you read in ANY publication. Vehicles that can be towed give ALL of the details in the owners manual, which can be viewed at any dealership.

The 2013 Explorer w/ eco boost is not towable 4 wheels down either. Search the web for owners' manual for the vehicle you want before going further, they are all available.

The ability to tow the Edge is listed in the towing guide book. Ask your dealer if they have the 2013 copy.

Here is the Ford towing guide for all their 4 wheel down towing, across their lineup.

This is where you can find the towing guide, and you can change years from 2002 to present (only 2012 today).

It looks like the 2012 Ecoboost is fine with towing, and I don't think that they changed the transmission for 2013.

According to this manual online

Link

You are correct - the 2.0 liter engine cannot be towed 4-down. (pages 247-248).

Ford is also notorious for stating in the owners manual "Towable 4 down" then sending out panicy letters to owners (Escape for Example) telling them NOT to tow 4 down anymore. Then the stories come out from owners that they destroyed several transmissions towing their vehicles.

Enjoy, nice car. My co worker has an '08 with 160,000 miles on it now. 1 set of brakes so far, that's it, well...and tires too obviously. Just an awesome vehicle.

The transmission and drive train is what make the differance not the engine allthough some engines only have one kind of transmission.

Be careful taking what's in the manual as the gospel as it also states that its subject to change. I don't recall what make or model, but someone on here bought a new vehicle recently that was listed as towable but when problems arose they changed the manual to correct the issue and the car became untowable at least as far as the mfg is concerned. So things can and do change.

Thanks everyone for the super fast responses!! I looked up the 2013 owners manual and it said I can not tow 4 down with eco boost. What a bummer! But still love the car so I guesss we will go with the V6. Again, thanks so much everyone!!
