There are dozens of campgrounds in Cape May County. They range from small, mostly seasonal places in the woods, to full blown resort type places. Give us more of an idea what kind of things you look for, and activities you are interested in, and we can give you some ideas. One place to look: Cape May County Campground Assn.

I've been to Cape May once and I'll tell you which campground NOT to go to and that Holly Shores. The sites were small and cramped for our 39 ft fifth wheel (what we had at that time)even though I had booked a "Super Site." That said, the major reaason why we won't go back is the management. The woman berated her employees in front of the guests which I had a problem with. As a business owner, you just don't do that! There was no reason why she couldn't have spoken to the employee privately after we were gone. But instead she yelled at the woman in front of an office full of guests and then apologized to me. That wasn't the only time I witnessed her doing that to an employee. We won't go back there.

It depends on where in Cape May you want to be. We really like Big Timber Lake. It is a little way out, but it is nice. We looked at a lot of the others and none struck us as being better. Bigger and closer, but BTL is our choice.

Somebody said you have to pay everytime to go on the beach? Is that true? I dont mean vehicle parking ,but if you want to take a walk on sand near the ocean. I was thinking of going until I heard that,if your camping does your campsite fee includes beach acess?

Most beaches in NJ require you to purchase a beach tag, even residents. Beach tags are required while lifeguards are on duty, generally between 9 am and 5 pm. You can probably get on the beach in some places without having to purchase a beach tag, but you may get asked while on the beach to show your beach tag.

We lived in Ocean City, NJ for 7 years and only bought seasonal beach tags twice. We rarely went on the beach during the day, unless family was visiting. If we did go on the beach during the day, we'd go to unguarded beaches where there wasn't a beach tag attendant. Just avoid the beach tag "police".

We stayed at Holly Shores a couple of weeks ago. Yes, it's a little tight, but we found everyone pretty friendly. They have a bus that runs to Wildwood beach. Wildwood is free, though you need tags for Cape May. We were pretty happy with our visit.

We went to NJ beach one time. Stayed at Ocean View CG. The campground was nice, but huge. If you don't have bicycles or a golf cart, plan on a lot of hiking to get to the pool or pond.

The traffic going and coming was horrendous. While we were there, I wanted to go out early Sat am to get some fresh tomatoes. Traffic was horrendous - we only went about a half mile down the road, and we turned around to go back to CG. Took us over an hour before we got back. We thought there was an accident, but the guard said traffic is like that every weekend.

We never went back to NJ beaches. We go to DE or MD.
