Unfortunately it is that time. My truck is in the shop for loss of power and they haven't figured it out yet. Tends to worry me, one minute it was fine, the next it couldn't get out of its own way. So I'm thinking it is time to get rid of it. Especially since it really has no payload, truck with me, hitch and full fuel tank weighs in at 8040 lbs. GVWR is 8800 lbs. Add the DW, all her stuff and the parrot, well that'll add another 150-160 lbs to the empty weight. Pin weight on the FW is 1900 lbs (scale weight).

I know that the 03-04 6.0's are to be avoided (wish I knew that before I bought one). What year(s) Duramax and CTD have had reliability issues and should be avoided like the 03 PSD? I'm not sure I want another 6.0 but if the price was right, well, ya never know.

Don't forget to think backward in years regarding the Ford and 7.3 engine.

Sad to say, time to sell to a good home.

Have a 6.0 2006. Had problems in the beginning with fouling, but that was my fault because I did not work the truck. Now I use gas additives to keep things clean. Not a problem. 46K presently.

All I can say on the 6.0 is what my boss told me when I started looking for a diesel. He owns a trucking/heavy equipment company and bought an F550(used) with a 6.0.
Paid $8000 for it,drove it home,it crapped out and now he has $12,000 in it. This is a guy who knows diesels and he assures me the truck ain't worth $12 grand. My 99 cummins has the troublesome vp 44 pump but that is an easy and not too expensive fix($500),he also has a 7.3 F350 that just keeps running like a champ.

Duramax is a beast, good engine. 6.5 is an anchor, nothing but trouble. Thus ends my first hand knowledge.

I would avoid any year 6.0 unless you like problems. JMHO I am a former 6.0 owner and a ford man but the numbers dont lie it can be a money pit. I will never buy another.

One Duramax had overheating problems and another had bad injectors...though the latter will probably have been replaced by now. The former..I would avoid. Honestly...I would avoid any GM truck, because I find them inferior in every way EXCEPT the powertrain. At this point, I would look for an F-350 with gas V10 power.

Always been a GMC guy.And the best diesel IMO is 2007 classic Lbz .Don't have all that emission crappy. Can cut the cat off with out throwing any codes.
I know The Lb7 has injector issues..
You got the bad and good in any truck definately stay away from the 6.0 ford.My buddies all had major issues.

Don't listen to Jarlaxle-GM trucks are not inferior, they are the best out there in my opinion. I have 91k on my '07 duramax and have had zero problems. The truck is powerful, shifts perfectly, rides like a dream and has never so much as hiccuped. The best duramax is the 06-07 LBZ generation. This is the most trouble free gm diesel, period. The 01-04 duramax was the LB7 and every single one will have injector problems, if it hasn't already happened. The LLY is 04.5-late 05 and some of them had overheating issues. That can easily be fixed by changing to an LBZ mouthpiece(intake) and maybe a tune at the dealer. The LMM is 08-10 I believe, and it had a lot of smog/dpf equipment on it. I'm sure it's trouble free also, just more stuff to go wrong. Then you have LML which is the current duramax, and now you have to put urea into it also(pain in the neck), just to make it run. My vote is 06-07 LBZ duramax hands down. If you must go ford, either 7.3 or V10 gas is your best bet. There are certain guys that swear by the cummins engine and I don't blame them. Ever heard the saying "6 in a row, built to tow"? All of the over the road and heavy haul semi's use inline 6 cylinder diesels for a reason-massive torque curve that cannot be matched. Dodge trucks quality isn't as good as GM or ford in my experience, although they have stepped up quite a bit in the last few years.

Older Cummins (I think 12v?) had a "killer dowel pin" which could be fixed. If fixed, solid.

Curious what happens w the 6.0. Could the fixes that are known help now? Hope to see a follow up. Good luck!

What is your favorite part about the truck, Glamis....is it the Playskool interior with Revell Snaptite dashboard? The random squeaks and rattles? The rotted rocker panels? The peeling paint? The brake rotor problems? The weird vacuum-operated front axle disconnect?
