I had a gray water valve leaking and I had a local come to the campgroud and change. Still leaking and he said it must be something else. When I got home I took off and looks like a very simple thing to change, and a simple system. So I bought another valve even when the one he put in looked good. I know the seals must fit right and I tightened the bolts evenly, but same problem. I must have pulled out 6 times and reinstaled with bad results. Once it held the water until I pulled the dump valve and it leaked all around the valve. I also lubed the seals. What am I doing wrong? I evidentaly am not lining up the seals. How tight should I tighten the bolts?

It is easy to overtighten the bolts. They do not have to be extremely tight. It is also easy for the seal to slip out of alignment when installing the valve. In fact, it is hard to keep it from it. This is evident when you remove it however.

Just buy a new valve and install it. You may be able to crean te old seals if they are not damaged but they usually are.

When installing valves I used a thin piece off plastic (actually from the valve packaging) to hold seals straight. Get the valve into place thin slide plastic out and bolt together. My valves are sandwhiched pretty tight and really are difficult to just slip into place.

Fixed. used the plastic to get in line without messing up seals.. Went a bit further and installed the 4 bolts and finger tightened, then pulled out the plastic. Thanks for the idea.
