Looking for extra cold storage. The Dometic units are a little pricey are there any option other than Dometic?

Go with a dorm/apt size 120v + an inverter. Saves $$ and much more reliable & efficient.

I believe it is hard to beat the Dometic. Mine is on a slideout right next to my entry door and can be used for cooling, freezing, or both. It runs on both my inverter or a 12V plug in, whichever I choose. I'm not sure of their cost, mine came with my coach.

We also have a similiar setup for a small fridge/freezer in our unit and want to add one. Is the electrical cord one of the coiled ones so it doesn't maybe get caught when the slideout drawer goes in/out.

JC2-
Mine is a WAECO by Dometic. It measures 24"L, 19"H, 15"W. Both the AC and DC cords are straight and both plug in directly behind the slideout unit. I've never had a problem with them getting caught and I use the unit frequently every time we are in the rig. If I use it for refrigeration only, it will hold a case+ of beer, soft drinks, and a few bottles of wine (just thought I would throw that in!.

Thank you for the info. Did you have to secure it any special way or does it just sit on the slide tray? My apologies to the OP for interupting his thread. Now, back to regular programming.

I know you said cost was a consideration, but here's one to consider. http://www.sportfridge.com/60-liter

We've been using one of these for about 7 years. Keeps our frozen Salmon and Halibut hard while in Alaska and all the way home. Even in 100 degree+ days. It uses a 120/12v Danfoss compressor.

Kinda hard to stand up a dorm fridge in the basement of a motorhome.

We use a Koolatron Electronic Cooler/Heater. 12 volt cigarette socket plug in.
Optional AC adaptor. Will hold 48 12 oz cans. Around a $100.
Probably 10 years old and still ticking.
