I am looking at a 2005 2500HD Silverado Crew with the 6.6L Duramax. 85000 Miles, LS trim in very nice shape. Dealer is just getting ready to put this on the lot Monday, so a price is not negotiated yet. The listing on the web page says it is a 6L gasser...it is not. It is the Duramax. I test drove it today and like it alot. I am going Monday morning to do some dealing. What should I be looking for if anything for this paticular motor??? What would you pay for this vehicle? Remember, YOU have the bargain money - they want the money, not the truck, so use the KBB as a guide, deduct for any little damage you see ... I'd also get new brakes and new tires installed. If the dealer thinks its a gasser, don't change his mind.
THEN, start at the KBB wholesale price a work up from that. If you let the dealer begin the counting, no matter what price you counter with, he will raise you - so you start low, and wiggle up as little as you can until you feel the price is right ...
Well there are not any active recalls on it, not knowing what options it has it would be hard to say what I would pay.

If it has the Work Truck package, that means it is a bare bones truck, very little interior option features. Look up it's value on KBB or NADA, making note it isn't a top of the line trim package truck. Those top of the line trim packages can easily add $3000-8000 to the cost of a new truck....
Make sure it never had a tuner installed. Usually a tuner installed means adding over 100 horsepower to a transmission that wasn't designed for that. Those tuners are hard on transmissions. The overheating issue is the main thing on that LLY. From what I understand, you can have the dealer install an LBZ mouthpiece to the intake to get the engine more airflow. This may be the fix, maybe not but the dealer would know(if it's a GM dealer). Check to see if the ISS(intermediate steering shaft) has been replaced or greased. If not, when you drive the truck, make sure there is no rattling underneath the steering column. If it rattles, make them fix it before you buy it. It's not a safety issue, it's just annoying(the fix is to take it out, grease it, and put it back in). No zerk fitting there, so this is the only way. Check the carfax on it making sure it has not been in an accident. If it drives good, i'd offer him around $20k if it's a work truck with vinyl floors, etc. If it's a higher trim level with carpet it should be worth maybe $25-27k.
