Someone please set me straight, obviously I must not be up to date on new converters.
I am being told that there is a modern 'converter' that is in all newer RV's that does NOT need a battery and 'can provide 12 volt from shore power only'.
I thought all converters need a battery to charge to provide 12volt to an RV? Or is there a special converter for TT type RV's because they have no engine battery to assist?
All I know is if my MH doesn't have a battery there is no 12v power.
Although........hmmmmmm.....if this IS true I just had a new converter installed, maybe it's one of these magic ones!

Don't know about set-up in MHs.
But in our 5'vr........all 12V DC stuff will work directly from converter without the batteries (either removed or disconnect switch off) except for slide-outs and landing gear. Got to have batteries for them to run...not enough output from converter for those.

Yes, "switch-mode " converters available since the late 90s? (9100 eg ) do not need a battery, exept for some RVs to move the slide since the converter needs help with that or the slide is connected through the battery so it needs the connection. Not all RV slides need the battery though. eg 5er in sig converter 7355 can do all 12v stuff including 12 ft slide with no battery

My "old" 5er didn't need a battery except for the breakaway switch.

If you have a WFCO converter, those don't need batteries.

All towables with electric brakes need a battery installed if you want the breakaway switch to be able to actuate the brakes in case of emergency. Keep that in mind...

I saw the other thread..
Most of the newer ones, (at least all but maybe the absolute cheapest that haven't bothered to realize that there are switch-mode power supplies out there off the shelf) don't require a battery. But they are expecting one out there simply because it's a giant capacitor that does an excellent job of cleaning up noise often generated by switcher type float chargers.
So can you pull the battery? Sure, but why?

"So can you pull the battery? Sure, but why? "
My routine for generator charging is to plug the shore cable into the Honda 3000 and let the OEM 7355 converter run the trailer, disconnect the battery bank (so no battery for trailer), plug the 100amp PowerMax converter into the Honda as well, and recharge the batteries.
I can exploit the fact the 7355 does not need a battery by charging the batteries with no draw on them while I am trying to charge them up. Saves gen time.
If my trailer came with the old 6300 instead of the 7300 I would not be able to do that. ISTR the 2001s, maybe 2002s, had the 6300, so we just made it having a 2003 model trailer.
