Rather than pulling the 5er south this winter, I am considering staying home for the first half of the winter and then starting about Jan 15th, renting a cabin or house for a couple of months. Would prefer spend a month somewhere near Colorado Springs or Ft Collins; and a month in Prescott/Phoenix areas. Any thoughts on how to find monthly rentals in those areas?

Search snowbird -seasonal in the state you choose. Hang on to your pocket book though the rates are usually high!
We've had very good results renting from www.vrbo.com. This is where you deal with the owner of the property. So far we've done: Phoenix, St. Augustine and this winter will be Orange Beach, Al.
