The grill that I have has a piece of hose between the regulator and the grill. I took it to a propane dealer and he split the hose in the middle and crimped threaded fittings on each end. Then I put the male adapter in the end that was still attached to the grill. Cost $6 for the parts/labor. Then I got a 12' hose from Tractor Supply and made my extension line from that. I put the female snap adapter on one end that attaches to the grill and a male adapter on the other end to go in the exterior gas line on my unit. A word of caution though. There a lot of different gas sized adapters out there. I bought one without knowing this and now it is a spare in the building. I have no idea what I am going to use it on but it is there in case I ever need it...:-) I had both ends crimped with threaded fittings in case I every wanted to use the grill with the regulator/portable tank.

Thanks. Looking online this morning I see Camp Chef grills are set up that way. I was looking at my set up and decided this grill would work great by switching out the hose with a connector as you stated. It will also put out enough heat to boil a large pot of water after crabbing.

I just installed my extend-A-flow between the onboard tank, & the onboard regulator, & just use the grill regulator, the onboard regulator takes care of the MH.

might be a dumb question , but I just picked up pa coleman roadtrip grill. Can I just disconnect one of the propane tanks from the camper and and connect the grill. Looks like it would work to me.

Absolutely,as long as your grill has a regulator, & you'll need a hose like this, http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/5-propane-hose-assembly/30338

Be careful, not all grills will work properly when you pull the regulator off. I bought a grill pulled the regulator off of it, and tried hooking it to the low press outlet on the RV, it didnt work worth a dang... Just my 2 cents

I had just the opposite effect. The quick connect line was plumbed into the low pressure side of the camper propane and with the additional regulatior on the grill it barely had a flame. After removal it works just like the burners in the camper and cooks great. You do not need two regulators.

After this mod you can no longer use the grill to directly connect to a propane tank.

I took the regulator off my Q120 grill and attached the quick connect fittings...I then put a quick connect fitting on the regulator (female) and can use the grill without the regulator by connecting the quick connect hose to the grill and then to the quick connect on the trailer. If I want to take the grill "on the road" for a picnic away from the trailer, I just "quick connect" the regulator back onto the grill and it works with the stock 1 lb disposable cylinders. Best of both worlds.

My 2 cents, your mileage may vary...

Just another note I remembered is DON'T use compressed air quick connects. I saw a camper once that had rigged up his own using them. Very dangerous, the propane connects are designed to not leak and use seals compatable with the gas.

If you read enough of the propane threads, You'll find that the large majority believe buying the grill of their choice and modding it to run of the quick connect is one of the two best options.

The other that is very popular is using the fittings like a "Stay A While" adaptor prior to the trailer regulator to allow a high pressure (un-regulated because it branches off the trailers tanks prior to the trailer regulator) which gives you a hose to give a more mobile placement of the grill.

Yet another is the option to carry a spare tank and be able to untether from the camper all together and move it as you wish.

Many are happy with the low pressure un-regulated grills that are made for hooking to a regulated, low pressure hook up. For many others, the ability to take a portable grill anywhere they want (sometimes without the camper) make one of the other options mentioned above more attractive to them.
