Just got back from an overnite trip in some pretty rough terrain and was thinking I should look into lifting the camper. So I went out and started to look under the frame when I noticed the tires are almost worn out! We have a 2012 Jayco X17Z with the tiny 13 inch tires. The trailer has probably 4500-5000 miles on it. Shouldnt the tires last longer than that? Should I look into getting bigger rims and tires? Better quality tire? I looked on line and there isnt a large selection of 13" D rated tires. Any body have any suggestions? anyone put 215/75/14 tires and wheels on this camper before? I guess my big thing is I dont want to upgrade only to find the tires are worn out in less than a year again.

I average about 40,000 miles on a set of ST trailer tires. Bad tires may be PART of the problem but I'd have the alignment checked along with all other suspension parts. WAY too much wear for so few miles. My trailer takes load range C tires because it is only 8000 lb. max.

Sounds like you have an alignment problem more than a tire problem?
I've got the 13" tires for a #5000 GVWR trailer and I'm on my second set in 10 years.. (replaced the OEM's last year)
I got my LR D tires online from etrailer and while they are not the most popular country of origin, they are doing fine so far!
Good luck with your situation.

I have ST175/80R13 tires on my boat trailer. I have no idea how many miles are on them but they are 9 years old. They still look like brand new with no cracks and no leaks. I know you're supposed to replace them before 9 years but that takes money. I do have a spare if one decides to blow.
You must have some seriously defective tires or alignment problems if yours are worn out that fast.

If it is an alignment issue is this fixable? Do they align these like a car? it is a single axle trailer.

Hope you still have some warranty left as NO it's not a simple alignment like on a car.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

I have a 17Z and changed my tires and wheels to ST205/75R14 radials. I never liked the 13" and my Duro tires were getting a couple of small cracks in them.
I like the 14" much better. Also, The load range D 13" tires that were stock are generally special order only in that size and I didn't want to have trouble getting a replacement on the road if needed. The ST205/75R14 are common.

Different method of alignment than a car but it can be done. And since your tires wore down so quickly, I would get it checked.

You need to get the alignment checked. That amount of wear is not normal. I went on a road trip to Canada last month and did 4000 miles on my essentially new made in China Goodyear Marathon C rated trailer tires and they show no wear our blemishes whatsoever. And they did not blow up or perform anything but perfectly.
I did upgrade to 14" tires and aluminium rims which also was great. With that I have more capacity than the rated GVWR of the trailer and peace of mind.

Did I miss HOW they wore? Were they worn only in center, only on both edges, only on one edge?
We need that answer first I think.
