That 42' class A probably had a lot more than $3000 in damage..I'd imagine the frig that comes in those units runs to $2000 alone. Add up what's in your unit, plugged in...converter/inverter, A/C, frig, TV's, water heater, control panel, micro/convection oven, etc. Then add labor to fix/replace all that. If the campgrounds at fault, do you really want to hire lawyers & hang around to sue & try to recoup? Not sure if it's a govt campground (State, military, Corp) that you even can sue. Private campgrounds ALWAYS blame your rig (in our humble experience). Maybe you guys who've never had a problem don't travel out of your own area. Our Surge Guard covers high voltage, low voltage, surges, bad wiring at the post. It shuts us down if anything is wrong..whether we're in the campground or off having fun. Then it automatically comes on when the danger is past. We're on our second unit- first one fried. No damage to our motorhome.

Coach-man news flash - I'll never go away - got to stay around to help protect others from such insane advice. Your bully attitude means nothing to me and others I'm sure. Seems quite a few other folks think you are way off base as well. The guy beside me who fried $3,000 in electronics due to no protection I'm sure would have a few choice words for your uneducated comments. Such a macho attitude you have imposed upon yourself - you just don't let others have an opinion that disagrees with your opinion. I find yoru ignorance refreshing so stop trying to pick a fight with me - you have your opinion - I have mine!
Live and let live Dude!

And what exactly did I say?? I said surge protectors are absolutely useless, UNTIL YOU NEED THEM! The point is there were/are several people who posted "Well I've been rv ing for 20 odd years and never had a problem..."And they are probably right, but the first time you have a problem, you could easily fry $3K and more worth of equipment for not having one! Like the sign in the store "This place is monitored by an armed off duty cop four days a week, YOU pick the day"! And again, read the whole post and don't go off half cocked after reading the first couple of words! Your a new comer with lots to learn, Say what you know, listen to what you don't!

Thanks for the tip coachman - You really seem to like to be mean and sort of an insulting know it all - fine that is your problem not mine. Let's bury the hatchet and try to get along - I'll give it a try if you will. You really should not assume that you know more than anyone else - we are all equal here - different strokes for different folks so perhaps we can start out on that premise. We all have things to learn - including you. No one is all knowing.

Since we mostly boondock we don't have one. Now that I'm plugged in at home though maybe I should buy one. At the Rally the Progressive was marked down and I was tempted but didn't bite. Actually we are not plugged in right now, decided that we could let the RV get hot inside just like when we had it in storage and just turn the air on before we go on a trip.
