We're traveling to Foxboro MA later this month with my parents to camp for a week. I'm in a 2011 F350 towing a 36' fiver and my parents have a Prevost 40' coach. Dad doesn't want to run toll roads due to the expense (ya, it's ironic, but he is who he is) so I'm trying to find a route that will contain few or no toll roads to get us from A to B. We're leaving NY around 8AM. Dad has suggested 88 to RT 2 across MA to 495 and down to Foxboro. Is this an RV friendly route? Do you suggest another route that might be shorter/faster or better for larger rigs?

Thanks in advance!

Route 2 is slow, has narrow lanes, lots of hills, and a hairpin turn. Not an easy run in western Mass. If I were you I'd give dad the toll money and just hop on I90 and go. It's a straight shot to 495. It has some hills out west but is a much less white-knuckle drive.

You're looking at a huge PITA to avoid what cannot amount to more than $10 in tolls..... The MASS Pike is not at all expensive and is so much more RV friendly than trying to cross the Berkshires on back-roads.

We're @ Normandy Farms till 8/5...... See you when you get in! ;-)

$10 for a 40', 30,000 pound coach with 3 axles plus 2 more on the car he's pulling?

Edit...looks like $25.60...not bad!

hehe...you'll see us 7-27 later afternoon. White F350, 2013 Cougar and a brown/gold Prevost coach. Come say hello!

It's been a while since I drove to the NY border on the pike, but the auto rate was less than $3 from Boston. You'll be getting off @ Rte 495, which is less expensive. Believe me, it will be sooooo much easier to pay the toll......

Yep...but he's a class 9. Still not bad at $25.60

Thanks again...he's stuck on rte 2, we'll see what happens. He's a 33 yr veteran tractor trailer driver and stubborn.

oops only posted the link
I take rt2 everyday and down 495. Rt2 west of me is 2 lanes norrow and very sharp curve You can do it but will add aprox. 1.5 to 2hrs to your trip. Take the mass pike to 495s to rt1 if you want to see gillette stadium 95n to go quick but take the mass pike. Rt2 has a lot of construction aven tracker trailers are avoiding it. Lots of bridge work too. MAss pike round trip 3 axles $10.10 you'll spend more in gas going rt2.
