Not sure if this is a class C problem or not but...
I never get great AM reception. FM is fine but AM mostly static. Not sure if the cabover (which blocks the antenna) has anything to do with it.
This is my second radio in the unit with the same problem.
Any tips would be appreciated.
THanks

Can't really help, as I never listen to AM in any vehicle, but my guess is that you're correct about the overhang, blocking the signal.

are you plugged into 110 when this happens? if so it might be the converter and putting static into you radio. if so only thing you can do is put a filter inline to the 12v side of the radio. if any thing 12v like a fan or any thing with a motor to it is running, that might upset the 12v going into the radio. radio shack has filters for that.

My AM reception is terrible in my C. The FM isn't so great either. Got a Sirius radio and a multi vehicle kit so I can move it between vehicles. Problem solved.

Are your talking about your AM radio in the dash?
Is so, look and see if your antenna is touching the cabover. Mine will touch the cabover when fully extended. I pulled it down just enough to not touch the cabover and now I have good clear AM.

It is probably the antenna location. The dash radio with the fender mounted (Winnebago even moved it forward on the fender infront of the cab over) does NOT get near as good reception (AM/FM) as the outside entertainment radio, with an antenna mounted on the roof of the MH. Both are cheap Magnadyne radios.

I have had 2 class A's and one class C before my current Class C. The previous units all had good AM reception, my current C Coachmen Prisim does not get any AM stations, it has a "window" antenna, which I attribute to the problem. The second radio in the "media" center" has no problem picking up AM, FM or sirious stations, but it has its own separate antenna!

Go to a local shop that installs and services automotive sound systems. Have them diagnose the problem and recommend a solution.

This is exactly what I was going to say. It worked for me like a charm. I think it has to do with the antenna getting grounded by the side of the cab.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

Yep. AM antenna requires a ground plane to operate properly. If the antenna is not grounded properly your reception will suffer.
