If a dealer has a used class A motorhome on his lot priced at $69.900, what would be a fair "out the door taxes included" price for it? Would $60.000 to $62.000 be a fair price or would that be to low or to high? Just wanted some opinion's.... Thanks

I wouldn't worry about what a "fair" price is. You should try to pay as little as you can since the dealer is trying to get as much as possible without regard to "fair".

I'd probably start out in the mid to low 50's and go from there. You might be surprised what they accept in today's market. Fair is what a willing buyer will pay a willing seller. If you both agree then it is a fair deal for you both.

Honestly, you never know. It seems in Ontario business is good as there is little to no flexibility with most dealers.

I was looking at MH (2000 KSDP) listed for $39,900, I started at 5 K below that, dealer said no, I came up but the dealer wouldn't come down (we were 2K apart including taxes). Dealer said he needed to make 5K on mine and the one he was selling and couldn't do it. This is the same dealer who I dealt with a year ago and bought my MH from. No deal and the next week he raised the price to $49,500. Its still on his lot about 2 months later.

The one I did buy was listed about 15-18K below NADA due to some condition issues (fixable) and the car dealer wanted to move it. I only got about $1k off his asking price, but he did put six new tire on for cost.

Pay only what you think it is worth based on your research - I felt the KS was underpowered and did not have all the extras to pay full asking price. The 99 DSDP I did buy had all the extras and with some time and effort (and $) is worth more than what I paid for it (at least according to NADA), though we all know you don't make money on a MH.

You first need to evaluate what the rig you are looking at is worth. If the dealer is realistic with his pricing maybe only a couple of thousand off is a good and fair price. However, some dealers/sellers list high so the buyers "think" they got a real good deal when they negotiate the price down several thousands of dollars.

Look for similar sales (not asking price) both locally, if you can find a comparable sale and online, including what is moving on ebay. Also factor in overall condition and items like maintenance records and tires. Good luck.

Do a low retail/dealer price and that's about what you should pay.

Depends on the unit and the dealer. A friend bought a used class A listed at $120000 for $90000 out the door. I'd take 30 percent off and start from there. Don't be afraid to haggle for quite a while.

Do research on the unit and offer whatever you are comfortable paying. What can they say No? Just like they start high its ok for you to start low

A lot of the dealers flexiblity on price is determined by whether or not the unit is on consignment or is owned. If on consignment the actually owner determines what he will take but price of a dealer owned unit is more easlily negotiated.
