I did a search before I posted this and didn't find anything. My apologies if this is a duplicate.

After threatening to close state parks, raising fees at some parks to almost double and curtailing services, this comes to light.

"State Parks Director Ruth Coleman resigned this morning and her second in command has been fired after officials learned the department has been sitting on nearly $54 million in surplus money for as long as 12 years."

The State Parks Director Ruth Coleman resigned this morning and her second in command has been fired after officials learned the department has been sitting on nearly $54 million in surplus money for as long as 12 years. Read more here:**Link** to the full article.

I am so angry and feel so frustrated that the average citizen can do nothing in these situations.

The poor management at parks has been evident for years. Heads should be rolling and I hope the criminally negligent get jail time.

The guilty parties have been identified but the REAL criminal would be the states budget commission that has a system that allows unaccounted for moneys to be withheld. That should be the place to begin making the necessary changes.

Government corruption in California? Who would have imagined that? Maybe at the state level but certainly not at the city and county levels!

Popsie,

I have lived here in California for 50 years. And if I could drag my wife out of here when we retire, I wouldn't hesitate for a minute.

But can anyone be sure that every government employee in their state is ethical? yeah, I have become very cynical re: our various forms of government and the people who run them.

...and just to the North... a single step over the state line is OREGON! Arguably, THEE BEST State Park System in the country!

It's funny in a way... as fulltimers, DW and I have spent the last 1.5 years travelling up and down the Oregon coast and learned early on....

When asked "where are you folks from?".. the CORRECT response is....

ANYWHERE except CALIFORNIA.

What that has to do with the OP - I don't know but there it is!

we all Felt something was wrong with accounting

it was easy to see the huge numbers of people going to the beaches and parks and paying fees

the rservation system is always booked and hard to access

there is/was money coming into the park system

Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

And that is not a criminal offence?
Even if they did not personally gain from this is is still falsification.
