I discovered that using Glary Disk Utilities you can view your Windows Key for the installation of the O/S from disk under:
Modules/System Tools/System Information/Operating System and it is about the 6th item in the listing.
You should have it anyway, but in case you are wondering...
I was born in Great Falls, Mt. My parents moved when I was 5. I found them when I was 10 - they were in California.

That's Windows Product ID(20 characters) which is generated from your Windows Key(25 characters). You can't use that to install Windows.

I have Glary Utilities on my computers and it will list both the Product ID and the key. Glary Utilities is a useful little program to have on your computers anyway.

Why? What will it do for us?
I have my disk and key together in a package.
Can't get the key using the program if your hard drive crashes.

Can't get the key using the program if your hard drive crashes. It does much more than just display your product key. Their website lists the various performance and maintenance capabilities of the product.

The Product ID is provided by right clicking My Computer/Properties but not the product key.
This was just a discovery for me. I recall having a problem with my PC years ago (like Windows 95) needing the product key and couldnt find it.
Boxes get thrown away and the sticker may go with it. If you dont need it - no worry.

I've used "Belarc Advisor" which gives you the key and version information along with every piece of installed software and hardware on your PC. It's free.

I've used Belarc Advisor on my XP machines and it worked great. I just bought a new Notebook with Win 7 Home Premium on it and Belarc advisor says I have Vista on it. Vista? The computer's box said Win 7, the computer has a Windows 7 badge on it, when I boot up, it says Win 7, and the computer's properties screen says Win 7 yet Belarc syas I have Vista?. I don't trust Belarc advisor anymore.
Glary utilities free version is able to give a complete report as well as many other system utilities; too many to list here.

Another Windows system hardware and software info utility is SIW-System Information for Windows. Gives users the most detailed info I've seen yet. Will also display Windows keys and licenses of other popular installed apps. Can be installed on a portable USB drive. The Free personal version can be downloaded here.
