I am towing a 27' 5400lbs with a '89 chev c2500 5.7l 2wd 8bolts. The gvwr of the fifth wheel is 3500(lbs/kg?) and of the truck is 8600lbs. The weight of the fleetwood is 5400lbs
Thoughts, comments.. is this weird or crazy or normal...
thanks

With the weight being 5400 lbs.......

GVWR 3500....must be kg which would be 7716 lbs.

Your 3/4-ton 350 powered truck shouldn't have a problem towing a 5400 lb trailer.

Should be alright, I tow a 24.5 Wilderness that I think is around 9000 lbs or so if it was fully loaded, with a 96 GMC K2500 7.4 litre and seem to do alright, actually leave this saturday up the coquihalla to go to Blind Bay on Shuswap lake.
You should be alright with your combo.

Welcome to the forum.

I towed a '84 26' 7200 lb 5th wheel trailer with a '90 model 2500 5.7 7200 GVWR 4.10 9.5" 14 bolt semi float rear axle for eight years.
GMs tow rating was 9000 lbs.

Your truck has the old C6P 8600 GVWR HD chassis with the 10.5" 14 bolt full floating rear axle.
Looks like your well under GM ratings for your truck.

The rating of the truck is fine for that, your towing experience will depend largely on how well the truck has been maintained.

Not at all sure what you're finding as wierd Seems like a perfectly normal type of empty vs GVWR weights to me and 8600 lb. gvwr on the truck is about normal for an older 2500.

I was under the impression, for whatever reason, that it was a lot or that we were towing too much. I guess because its an older truck i strain to listen to every grunt and groan in anticipation of a breakdown. Maybe I should worry more about my own breakdown instead lol
thanks

i should add that the motor has been replaced and the tranny rebuilt probably around 10 yrs ago five or take. In anticipation of towing we had the electrical done as well as brakes and a tranny cooler installed. Did a tranny and rad flush as well but she still seems to labour an her temp rises up hills
