Normal, no… normally happens, yes under heavy traffic…
preventable, yes with a much better base and installing the absent weep drains before paving… its seldom the concrete itself, mostly base and mud and moisture trapped under the base giving way to the load stress on the leading edge of the pad…

The problem isn't so much with the concrete pavement as much as it is the quality of work in constructing the pavement. Our past few interstate paving projects that have been concrete are CRCP or continuously reinforced concrete pavement. In other words, no transverse expansion joints. No bumps at all for 6 miles or more except for the couple of punchouts that have occured over the past few years. But what you describe is typical with jointed concrete pavement and expansion will have an effect too as others have described.

Yes, but it can be especially bad if your tongue weight isn't 13 to 15% of the ACTUAL MEASURED FULLY LOADED TT weight, and/or your WDH has never been set up properly (usually too loose).

Thing is, concrete highways have like a 3 times longer life span that asphalt.
They are usually the best way to go. The concrete is just getting worn out and we have not as a country spent enough money on infrastructure for years.

Normal. GA 400 and sections of I575 north of Atlanta are just terrible.

Concrete typically makes nice driveways, curbs, and sidewalks. Asphalt highways are usually smoother, but with enough incompetence, they can be just as rough......

I call it "road humping"

DW calls that "inappropriate"

After I had a shackle brake on me (not related to concrete roads) I installed the Dexter EZ Flex suspension and it does make a difference ....don't get me wrong concrete roads still suck just not as bad

Another trick Ive tried is adjusting your speed . Sometimes I will slow down to 60mph from 65 and that helps a bit
