Hi,
we're new to camping/rving and are out for a number of months
heading from the northwest back to Florida. Our preference
is for camping in the national forests. We have had many
problems with people with their dogs, and we're talking large
dogs, not on a leash. twice, while heading to a restroom,
ladies have left the dog outside, loose while she uses the
facility. These dogs have been agressive. One woman using
a shower had three dogs, loose, and one was a pit bull would
not let me anywhere near the restroom. the husband came by,
put one with the wife, and told me point blank he would not
put his dogs on a leash, with a string of profanity.
do people feel that because its a gov't park/forest they
don't have to follow rules? We've been in washington, oregon,
california, and nevada and every park or forest has had a big
sign that says dogs must be on a leash.
can anyone explain this?
thanks

USFS facilities have leash laws while inside the park. I use to let my lab loose as she is loyal as they come. It was someone on this forum who caused me to rethink that. I no longer do that keeping my dog on a leash now. As an example and as it is the law. I also do not want anyone to feel threatened by my dog. She is a licker besides.

Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

The world is full of jerks - they give those of us that are responsible dog owners a bad name. Parks have rangers and if they aren't around there is always 911. Your job is to not be so dang nice to jerks and call the authorities.

If there is a camp host tell him.
My Ruger or S&W is always with me in CG's that are not private CG's just in case...one should never be unprepared for just this type of issue you refer to.

That is completely unacceptable. Bring this up with the manager, not just any yahoo in the office. If that lends you to nothing, call the authorities as suggested above. I don't know of ANY campground that doesn't have a leash law, and if I find one that does, they won't be getting my business.

That's correct. I also have my 9MM everywhere I go. If it comes down to me & my family or a dog getting ready to attack, guess who's walking away.

Someone is in charge there. Report them. If you cant find them, call 911 and tell them there are dogs unleashed and aggressive. Someone will come out and take care of it.
