We have purchased a previously owned 93 Coachmen Lite TT. The tongue weight says maximum 700 lbs. The hitch I have says maximum 600 lbs.
Is there a problem using these two together or should I get a hitch that says 700 lbs or more?
In all weights pertaining to RV's (max tounge, GVRW, gross etc...)
you are only as strong as your weakest link, where ever that link might be.
(To cheap to buy new)
1990 37 ft 5th wheel that hasn't moved since 1996 (our best home)
1997 33 ft trailer (winter home in much warmer climate)
2005 25 ft M/H (our "stand up B" for traveling)
I'd want my hitch limit to exceed the load on it. Where did you read the trailer tongue weight? I hope that isn't the published dry weight?
Trailer tongue weight should be between 13% and 15% of the FULLY LOADED TT weight.
What is the TT GVWR?

The hitch weight on a class III is 500-600 lb but higher when used with a weight dist hitch. Do you have a WD hitch? I tow other heavy trailers so I took off the class III and replaced it with a class V.

what you're saying doesn't make sense.
trailers have a "dry" tongue weight. never heard of a max tongue weight on the trailer.
when you say "hitch", i think you mean hitch receiver.
a hitch is what you slide into the tow vehicle's hitch receiver, to hook the trailer to. receivers have max weight numbers.
and that amount is for the receiver, no matter what vehicle it's bolted to. it doesn't mean the vehicle can tow that much.
what tow vehicle do you have?

If you are seeing "Max Tongue Wt. 700 Lbs.", my guess is that is the stamping on the coupler itself. The coupler would be bolted or welded to the TT A-frame. The manufacturer should have selected a coupler with a rating that equals or exceeds the design TT tongue weight.
You might be OK. But for anyone here to say for sure, it would be helpful to know the model of the TT and the "as built" weight from the manufactuter's sticker.
