If you financed your trailer through a bank or credit union, you probably have insurance on it.
I have GEICO also, and through the years i've had a pop-up, HTT, and Class A, all were financed and all had insurance which showed on my insurance card.

We live in Midland, TX and our tax office ask for proof of insurance. Anytime I renew any of our tags for car, truck & TT it is required. First time I went in they wanted to see it & the paper work from Austin says send copy of insurance when mailing it in. I just have renewed ours on the TT. Also our TT has a policy of its own. As far as theft of items it goes under the homeowner policy.

texas doesn't require insurance on any trailer that i'm aware of. I have no insurance on my utility trailer at all, and never have issues renewing.

Same here in Austin area. Every time I got a trailer
license renewed - even a little two wheeler - the local
tax office demanded the insurance forms for the
TOWING vehicle. (Wonder if that info is available to
a Peace Officer, making a stop, so that s/he can see
that you are using the correct TV???
Doggone nanny state, if so.....!)
No insurance forms needed on the trailer itself, but on
the TV....
cheers,

It's much easier to renew online http://www.texas.gov/en/Pages/default.aspx just click on the renew vehicle registration on the left hand side.
If you still want to mail it in you can certainly send in the declarations page just to be sure.

The tax office also staples my copy to the printed renewl paper with tag that says carry with you in vehicle at all times. In fact it is printed in red "This receipt must be carried in all commercial vehicles". The TT tag renewl is in the truck too. I wonder if anyone knew that on the TX tag renewl. You never know that some person has stolen the plate off your vehicle & that paper shows you purchased a tag along with the receipt that has your stick on tag. We showed proof of insurance on the tow truck for the PUP.

I just bought insurance for my TT in TX. My TV's liability covered the TT. Collision needed a different policy. Since TX only cares about liability, they probably only want your TV's liability insurance.

I've never been asked for prrof of insurance for TT tag renewal. But you do have to show proof of insurance for safety inspection sticker. They will accept your TV insurance card.

No proof of TT insurance was asked of me. On a side note, I have registered three motor vehicles in the past year. For the first time ever the clerk asked for the color of each vehicle. Huh? When I registered the TT they asked the same thing. I replied WHITE and she completed the process.
