This site has formatting problems, cannot post anymore. Basically Australian Winnebago will have to change it's name due to a court action by US Winnebago

On the Caravanners Forum, that was one tongue in cheek , suggestion. At a Caravan and Motorhome Show in Sydney, one of the other exhibitors said they had a court case with Winnebago US over one of their models.
Interesting to see what they will call themselves. They were known as Freeway before and made Slideons.Hopefully they will retire their ancient Class A, that is based on a Workhorse Chassis and replace it with something a lot newer. The Isuzu based Class C needs a refresh as well, but still retains it's value very well.

How success attracts contempt.
Why doesn't AU Winnie ship some Ducato Lowline Eyre models over here and see how fast US Winnie seeks a partnership.

But awaiting such merger, if they want suggestions for a minor change in spelling in a good substitute name, how about

If they were not successful, then Winnebago US, would not be interested.Seeing Winnebago Australia has been manufacturing since the mid-1970's, Winnebago US, has taken it's time getting offended!
I know Winnebago US has had an offer made for the entire operation. Maybe Winnebago Australia, could get one of the very cashed up Australian mining companies to make a bid. Either way everyone would be a winner.

A Wallaroo - two legged drive!

I am sorry Robert that I was too brief...what you wrote is what I meant totally...that the success of AU's growing RV sector so riles US Winnie that they only now take unprecedented action.
It is a testament to AU's RV successes.

Odd that the Aussie company ever adopted the Winnebago name in the first place... as it is a Native American word. It could only have been to trade on the familiarity of something that had been selling in the US since the '50s.
Even odder is Winnebago waiting all this time to complain about it. Or perhaps they did in the past...

What is likely behind the timing of the action would be Australia signing a trade treaty, or joining an international convention, providing for enforcement of trademarks internationally.
Many countries have been outside the International Trademark Convention in the past, but continued WTO membership is becoming contingent on falling in line on trademarks. It is all fallout from trying to make China respect brands and trademarks, stop producing counterfeit goods for export or even local consumption.
Winnebago, Jayco, other U.S. companies who have had their brands used in Australia have known about it for a long time, but just couldn't do anything about it under Australian law.
