We will be traveling along I95 headed south in late Aug. or early Sept. We have a travel trailer. I have been looking for a place to stop along the interstate in the southern South Carolina area. I would consider going as far as over the GA line, but that is about as far as I would want to go in one day. Some have told me to just stop at a Flying J and sleep a few hours, but I am not sure about doing that. We may need power for the A/C anyway depending on the weather.
I am looking for suggestions. I am looking a place to park and sleep and nothing more. More than anything else, I want somewhere SAFE. The more I think about it I feel like we would be better to stay somewhere that has at least power availalbe.
I know there are lots of you that have traveled this area before, and I look forward to your suggestions. If there are any of you that do use the parking areas of the Flying J (and similar) tell me about that also. I have never done that.

We stay at the New Green Acres CG in Walterboro SC. Long pull thrus and lots of shade. Just off 95. Not free but reasonable.

We have stayed at Point South KOA at exit 33 in South Carolina. It's at the Beaufort exit. It is just off the interstate, good WIFI, a quick off/on, clean bath rooms, nice pool, quiet and a clean laundry. It's definitely NOT a destination campground, but a great overnighter. We have been 3 different times and it's always a good stay. I think it cost us $35 for the night a couple of weeks ago and all their sites are pull-thru.

This may be further than you want to travel, but here's some more info.
If you like State Parks, Ft. McAllister in Richmond Hill, Ga is nice. It's about 10 miles off exit 90 of I-95.
There's also a KOA on HW 17 in Richmond Hill. Looks ok, but I've never camped there. Exit 90, left to hw 17 right and look for it on the left.
If you can get by without power, the Walmart at HW 17 and HW 204 (just off exit 94 of I-95) allows overnight parking in the outer edge of their parking lot. We've used that several times before we bought a home in the area.

I am looking at New Green Acres and possibly the Point South KOA. Bobsinn, did you like the area that New Green Acres was located in? Did it feel safe? Has anyone else stayed at this campground?

We stayed at New Green Acres twice last winter while traveling to and from FL. Perfectly fine from where I stand.

I have to start by saying that we will not patronize KOA operations unless there is no other campground for miles. Matter of personal choice.
That said:
Green Acres is just off the Interstate at the Walterboro exit. Nice people running a nice CG. We frequently stay there the first night out of Orlando going up the coast. Dog likes the play-park!
Farther South we like Walkabout CG near Woodbine, Georgia. (6 miles above the Florida line and about a half mile off I-95 at the Harriet's Bluff Road exit.) Now run by a young Aussie couple who are trying hard. Good for overnight, but the area is a little limited after that.

I've used New Green Acres CG when working in the Walterboro, SC area numerous times, often staying about a week. In my pre-life, my education was a BS in criminology and my experience, in law enforcement. One might say that I have an extra sense. I've always felt safe at Green Acres.

If you want to travel as far as Brunswick GA (exit 29), Coastal Georgia RV Resort is resonably priced and very nice. Access is easy, there are good restaurants nearby and a Flying J at the exit for fuel.
