I have a 12 year old Blue Ox aluminum tow bar. I pull a 2012 Terrain
Today the tow bar broke in half just as I was pulling out of a service station. The aluminum block that the arms bolt to broke off.
Thank goodness speed was minimal. It did do damage to the car and the RV but it could have been much worse!! The safety cables kept the car from leaving. Has anyone else heard of this? I will call Blue Ox tomorrow for sure!

Yes, I have seen another Blue Ox snap at the welded coupling joint. Owner was able to get new bar from Blue Ox through my former local dealer..

X - 2. 12 years old??? Has it received the required periodic maintenance? In following the pretrip safety inspection did you notice any cracks in the welds? I really doubt, with a 3 year warranty, that they will replace it. But I believe they will offer you a liberal trade in credit.

Still...
I presume that the damage to the car occurred when you stopped the RV and the car ran into it? Correct?
Didn't the onboard braking system and breakaway feature stop the car. OR DID IT???

I'm a huge fan of Blue Ox, but I've never been a fan of there aluminum tow bar. I'm glad it was at such low speed. I'd love to see a picture of the tow bar. Keep us updated!

Our Blue OX has a 10,000 lb rating I think. What rating does the aluminum one have as the terrain would be close to 5,000 lbs???
