Just wondering how others think on checkout time.If your at a popular campground that stays full most of the time, on your last day there, do you pull out early or do you wait until checkout time to leave? Myself if checkout time is 1:00 I'm out of there by atleast 10:00.

We tend to camp within 2-4 hours of home and are generally leaving right at checkout time. If its a Sunday afternoon and no one is coming in, we sometimes stay late.

A lot depends on how bad I feel the line at the dump station is going to be. A lot of times our nearest park is full but it's full of tentcampers. That means I can stay a little longer.

Depends on the checkout time and how far I have to go. If checkout is 4 PM, as it is in many of the COE parks I use, and I need to go 400 miles that day, I will be leaving early; I might even leave at dawn. If I'm going only 50 miles, and my goal is to be home before dark, I may stay until checkout.

One of our wintertime haunts has a 2:00 PM checkout. We usually wait until then to return home two hours away.

One time we were packing up to leave when the camp host came up to us at 2:05 and politely reminded us checkout was 2. I told OK, we'll be pulling out within a few minutes. Then this (new) host told us we would have to pay for another night because it is after two. There were two sites in the entire campground occupied -- ours and the host. There was no line of incoming awaiting a spot.

When the host insisted, I told her I would mail a check when we got home... ( ...right!..)

For us it also depends on the circumstances. For short distances, we usually checkout inside 1 hour before the checkout time. When needing to travel a long distance, it's usually much earlier. Of course if the weather is lousy, we may just up and go earlier......

Is check out time earlier this year at USFS? We leave half hour before. This is to be sure we are out if the new campers show up early. And the kids always do a trash patrol for the next.

I usually check out by 10:00 a.m. day of departure. I will get home at a reasonable time. Gives me a chance to unload, put equipment away, maybe even a little nap before dinner. If it is a long drive I will leave even earlier.

With us it mainly depends on the dump station. If I want to do a good flush I leave early when there are fewer at the dump station. Also depends how many miles are to be traveled the day we leave.
