Ford now thinks those PUs are built way too strong so the next line of Ford PU trucks are going to be built with aluminum foil and V6 engines. Ford spokesman claims the V8 is way too large for a PU truck. Actually the frame will be aluminum and over 700 pounds lighter.

per the article I read it quoted ford saying the frame will still be high strength steel. Body panels for the F150 will be aluminum. I guess I ended up with an entirely different take on fords position. I see the payload going up by 700lbs with aluminum body panels.

and ford says they still will have a V8 for the F150, although the ecoboost v-6 should be a great engine with 700lbs less empty weight to haul around.

OK so what's your point? Are you disagreeing with them or agreeing? Yes they have plans of going with Aluminum bodies but I don't recall seeing anywhere that current trucks were too strong or that the new ones would not be as strong. They have PROVEN that the v8 is not the only engine that can power a truck (Dodge has already done that with the Cummins anyway) although they still offer a v-8 for those who still want them. Just trying to understand the point of your post.

Sounds like you think the aluminum frame is weak, I doubt that is the case. OTR Trucks and their trailers use alum frames and hold up just fine. Aluminum in the body works fine too and many cars have been built this way. The main reason more aren't is cost.
Sounds like a step in the right direction to me.

I remember when my BIL bought my DS a new caddy with plastic bumpers. We all laughed thinking it was actually going to save fuel after the 1973 Oil Embargo.

We've been using aluminum body panels on our fire trucks for decades. They held up to the rugged treatment of the fire service for 25-30 years. Ford will probably be setting another benchmark with this one. And just when my buddy just got over my ecoboost running away from his Hemi. FT in a race!

Due to the CAFE standards, either going with turbocharged V-6 engines or going with hybrid designs is the only way an auto maker can keep the MPG averages up to par.

Ford is going a good route with the EB engines. The torque and HP curves on the EB engines are surprisingly flat, almost similar to a diesel. I'm just hoping that they come out with an EB V8 that can do everything the venerable V-10 does.

The downside of the EB -- I'd be very leery of doing custom tunes with this engine, although the good places (5 star tuning) have workable flashes for it.

Aren't the hoods already aluminum? Seems to me, when getting my 2001 F-150 fixed from hail damage, they told me the hood was aluminum.
