The short term rental of a camp sight gives no ownership rights.

At most it becomes a temporary joint tenants in common agreement.

The use of common areas is permitted, the question would become what is common area? Does walking on the grass of a site temporarily occupied by a short term renter violate any rights of land use?

The other question would become if one rents a camp site for a night and a stranger walks across the land, stepping in a hole, the hole having been existing previously for months, is the short term renter culpable for damages due to the injuries sustained by the person falling in the hole? If you can exclude people from "your" rented camp space you are certainly liable for any damages suffered by those on that property.

Is that the way you want a camping experience to conclude?

Most of us here are not talking about any rental agreement or contract. We are talking about COMMON courtesy amongst campers and general etiquette that many seem to not have.

I doubt they have much commonsense either. Your post is IMO way off base. The CG is responsible for unfilled holes someone might get hurt in. We are talking about COMMON COURTESY. No, it is not written in the books to not trapse through your neighbors site. But honestly, YOU NEED a contract to be courteous to your neighbors when camping? Seriously?

Right it is common courtesy and I respect others privacy. I do not walk on the sites others are occupying. I have went to other camp sites and ask if they would like to use the remaining coals in the BBQ grill.

I was responding to the comments of when one rents the site it is their property.

As below stated by another if someone comes on my lot I will ask them to stop for coffee or a sandwich and talk. I am very inquisitive, want to know where all are from, how they travel, where etc.

I see the keep off my grass hate as a short step to shooting someone for the dog dumping on grass. Dogs do what dogs do, humans clean up after the dog, no harm done.

I can't speak for others here, but I know you are reading me wrong and I suspect others as well. It isn't 'keep off the grass hate' it is simply expecting a modicum of courtesy.

Tractor Supply has electric tape and portable fiberglass poles and fence chargers and sign of all kinds. I tain't worring bout it. If they cut through and are obnoxious I won't invite them to sit a spell and have a drink.
Any of you have cake or pies I'll be right over going to the shore or outhouse or pool or laundry.

If you ask no problem. The only problem when you cut through my site would be the dogs, they will start barking. If you need to cut through my site you better have a cold one for me.

I don’t know if these threads are amusing, aggravating, or even serious…

Passer-bys walking under awnings, on patio mats, moving tables and chairs…

Over 40 years of camping, from small parks to the largest resorts, in the mountains to the sandy beaches, in crowded to sparsely populated CG, and I never, not once witnessed such blatant disrespect and disregard for or from other campers, even camping kids let alone experienced it… even having spent weeks at a time with a comfort station adjacent to or just behind my site…

I have seen some cut through occupied sites where the people knew each other and assume its ok with those involved, and I have seen people cut through unoccupied sites but very seldom…

Based solely on my own experiences this is a non-issue and certainly these happenings must be isolated issues…

but boy these threads draw a lot of attention for some reason… I guess because its so easy to have and defend opinions that can be every bit as wide ranging as the perceived problem… I say perceived problem because after reading any threads about another’s etiquette, courtesy, or commonsense all make these problems seem pervasive, and that I do not buy…

If someone did cut through your site back in 02 and again in 04, go ahead and post about it (although I am not sure its worth the mention) but with qualifiers like it happen to me, should read it happen to me 8 years ago… reading these threads you would swear that everyone that camped last week were surrounded by disrespectful jerks that do this on a regular basis…

Here's where it get's touchy...Does it really harm you if ONE person politely cuts through. I would argue "no"- especially if the site is roomy and you are not right on top of their picnic table, etc.

But, if many people are using your site as a cut-through because it lines up with the restroom, laundry, or pool, it really disturbs your peace and quiet.

....for this reason, it's probably a bad idea to cut through....YOU individually are not the problem, but the ongoing parade of you and all your co-launderers are a problem.

I find these kinds of discussions quite helpful. After all, etiquette and how breaches affect those around you are great talking points between fellow campers.

After all, it is understanding and concern for others that will cause someone to respect other campers, not just because "someone" says so.

It also gives ideas for how to handle noobs or disrespectful folks while at the same time renewing our faith that there are good, decent campers throughout our campgrounds who welcome a friendly greeting and are willing to help if you find yourself needing it.
