I have the Chevy 3500 HD Dually the tire pressuer plackard says 65 lbs cold in the rear tires. With no weight on the axle the tires ride on the center treads and i can see that the outer tread is off the pavement.Has anyone experienced this when not towing thier fifth wheel
if so what pressure do you use.

My placard says for max load 55 front, 80 rear. I run Michelin XLT M&S2's. When not towing I run 50/50 and have all my tread on the ground.

That seems odd the outer treads are off the ground completely. What do the tire sidewalls say for pressure? That is the only number you should consider as the placard was only accurate for (potentially) the original tires on the truck.

The max load rating says 80 psi the tire has no sidewall bulging as seen on all radials the fronts are fine but a lot of weight from the engine I can actually look from behind the truck and see that 80% of the outer treads are not touching the ground and the treads are clean compared to the middle ones.

Check your tire gauge to insure it is not reading wrong? Like too low so you would over fill the tires.

I have had my truck three weeks now and I am running 60 psi in the rears and 65 psi fronts empty. At 60 psi on the rears they still look to be running to high on the treads. I had the same Michelin tires on my last truck (05 Dodge 3500 SRW) and at those pressures they wore great. Guess the DRW setup will be something I have to get use to.

I ran 55 in the rear of the F 250 when empty. Made a heck of a difference.

Brand of tire may make a difference too. I run 55 front and back unloaded. 70-80 when loaded. I have to haul an air compressor in my 5er to do that, and it is a PITA to air down and air up but the difference in the ride makes it worth it. The factory TPMS had to go though.

Make SURE that all the tires are the same size. Friend bought a new truck and the inner tires were 1 size larger than the outer. Rims were the same but 1 tire size bigger. Go figure.
