If you are unsure about the age or condition of seals replace them before using the EZ lube feature. Buy a good quality DOUBLE lip seal and grease the seal in the groove between the lips before putting the wheel back on. And follow Dexters instructions and they work fine.
EZ lube hubs work if you follow the simple direction from Dexter... They are most often confused with old skool bearing buddys which are used on boat trailers...
I think they work great, and I have never had a problem with them.
I use the EZ-Lube on three of our four hubs (dual axle) every year. I disassemble the forth hub so I can check the brakes and bearings, and then hand pack. That way all hubs get hand packed, and everything checked, on a four year rotation.

I have these hubs on my river boat trailer. 6 years and many many launches into a cold river with warm hubs, same bearings and never a problem with bearings. I pump fresh grease in while spinning the wheels several times a season. If the greese comes out discolered then water has made it in. No big deal just keep fresh greese in the hubs. Pump the greese slowly while turning the wheel, use double lip seals and all will be well. With my greese gun it takes 105 pumps to completly refill the hub after completly cleaning out the hubs of greese.
BB_TX wrote: I lube mine per the Dexter directions and have had no problems. It is important to pump SLOWLY and keep the wheel turning all the time you are pumping. That will keep the grease moving and not build up pressure on the rear seal. It has to move thru the rear bearing, across the middle cavity, and out thru the front bearing.
Per the directions, I pumped grease in mine until I could see new grease coming out the front. That means there was a lot of old grease came out first before the new stuff started coming out. The grease I used was dark red (one of the ones Dexter recommends) and the old was dark grey. So it was pretty easy to see when the old was out and replaced by the new.
X2 I have the ez lube hubs on both the 5er and the boat axles, if PROPERLY maintained they last work great for years.
