wow
you are kicking yourself for your mistake and then kicking the repair shop for that bill. you must be worn out by now
seriously tho that is a shame. doesn't take much to screw ourselves up to a costly tune.

Sounds reasonable for disposal of 100 gallons of hazardous waste.

In my life I've spent my money on women, booze, Harleys, guitars and traveling, the rest I just wasted...

ME TOO... but watch out in a "BP" station - ALL the pump handles are GREEN! there is no standard color code in the industry! You have to be able to read.

What do you think the local fuel dealers do when they switch product in their transport peddle trucks back and forth? They pump into another compartment till it it changes tint color. Do the same thing to clear their hose. No such thing as hazardous waste in the petroleum business!!! If it is all screwed up, it goes back to the refinery and gets recycled through the system again.

As for the "hazardous" waste.....many many repair shops that have heat use waste oil heaters. Waste oil heaters will burn diesel fuel as well. The amount of gasoline mixed with the diesel, then combined with 100s of gallons of waste oil in a shops tank for their furnace would not be any problem....and would be taken for FREE by that shop. Now if the repair was done in the south where heating isn't common...then the OP did have hazardous waste of which he'd be responsible for.

I think I would find a way to burn it too. But you can't expect a business to do that. To them it is a waste product that has to be carried away.
If I did this kind of thing in my own truck, I would gather up about five 5 gallon gas cans. Siphon all I could out of my tank into those containers. Refill with fresh diesel, and over the next five fillups I would add one of those cans to the tank, topping with fresh diesel. That's the ideal solution, but if you're dead on the side of the road, maybe not a realistic one. Plus, my 6-owe is more forgiving to a little gasoline than the newer models. Those of you with the newest diesels, well you better just not make this mistake. Every time you fill up, conjure up an image of $10,000 in your mind, and I'll bet you grab the right pump.

You mean gas and diesel? I don't know where you got that idea. They do not separate sitting in a tank. Mixing a little gas with diesel has been a cold climate trick for ages. It mixes up nicely.

the late 70s and early 80s VW diesels mixed up to 20% gasoline with the diesel to avoid fuel jell. It was printed right in the owners manual. It did work but boy did that little diesel really hammer!
